Last Week for Dine Around Seattle

I love Dine Around Seattle & am always sad to see it end. It's such a fantastic way to experience nice restaurants at affordable prices. It ends on March 31st (& won't be back until November), so if you haven't taken advantage of it yet, do so in the next few days.

If you are unfamiliar with Dine Around Seattle, twice a year restaurants get together & for one month create 3 course dinner menus for $30 (many offer lunch for $15). Typically there are 3-4 options to choose from for each course. Friday & Saturday are excluded, but you can still take advantage of this amazing offer on another night when it likely isn't as crowded anyway!

Some options you may want to consider for brunch tomorrow (choose the 3 course lunch option for $15; verify the offer is valid on Sunday) are:

Excellent Article on the Food Movement

I make no bones about it: I'm passionate about the food movement in our nation. I feel very strongly that we need better access to organic, sustainably produced food, that kids should have healthy lunches at school, that supporting local farmers is vital to feeding our nation, & more. It's easy to get discouraged though, when it seems like our political leaders don't feel the same way.

However, according to The New York Times, there are lots of reasons to be hopeful about the changes that are being made to our food sources. The article lists 6 things we should feel good about, & let me tell you....I do feel good after reading it!

I encourage you to read the article (it's a quick read, I promise), but here are a few gems worth highlighting:
  • There are more than 6000 farmer's markets nationwide (1 250% increase since 1994) & 900 of those are open during the winter!
  • Wholesome Wave has a program that doubles the value of your federal food stamps (SNAP) when you use them at participating farmer's markets!
  • More people are growing their own produce & the number of farms is growing (although, there is the small issue of the majority of farmers nearing retirement age & the void that will be created when they do).

What do you think? Are you concerned with the way our food is produced? Leave a comment & let me know your thoughts on this subject & the article.

Wee Cycle Passes Giveaway

In various parts of the US, community consignment sales are very common. Here in WA, that isn't the case. I participated in one about 2 years ago & it was the first & last time the organizers did it. I suppose the turn out wasn't enough to justify their time.

I've heard that OR has many more of these events, & the Wee-Cycle Children's Consignment & Scrapbook Sale will be on April 1st & 2nd in Portland. Consignors can earn up to 80% commission or simply shop the same & snag some bargains!

I love the idea of these sales because a) it's a thrifty way to get needed goods & b) it's good for the environment (buying gently used items means less natural resources are used to manufacture new goods).

Wee-Cycle has graciously offered 2 BMIM readers 2 passes (shop with a friend!) to the Consignor Pre Sale on March 31st from 5:30-8pm. Shopping the pre sale means you get the best selection! At the event I went to 2 years ago, I snagged a Lilly Pulitzer cardigan for my daughter for $6!

Here's how to enter: Leave a comment saying you'd like to win the passes. Easy! For an additional entry, head over to Facebook & "like" Wee-Cycle LLC, then come back & leave a comment stating you did so. That's it!

The winner will be picked at random by Random.org on Sunday, March 27th at 8pm PST & the tickets will be mailed to you (so it's imperative you email me your mailing address right away, to get them in time). Good luck & thanks Wee-Cycle!

Free Purex Sample

I love samples! I use them when I travel or throw them in donation bags for the food bank. Here's a link to request a complimentary sample of Purex Complete with Zout. Your sample should arrive in approximately 12 weeks, or you can skip the sample & print out a $1 coupon instead.

$1 Dove Ice Cream Coupon

Head over to Dove Ice Cream on Facebook & "like" them (go on, "like BMIM if you haven't!). Then you can print out a $1 off coupon!

This coupon should be posted until 3/25/11 or until it has been printed 60,000 times. If you want yours, print it now before it disappears!

Jamba Juice: 2 Smoothies for $5!

My daughter & husband are addicted to Jamba Juice, so this coupon is going to come in handy. Get any 2 size 16 smoothies, juices, Ideal Meals, or Hot Blends for $5 through 3/30/11 when you use this coupon.

NW Harvest Donation=Free Stealth Ticket

Tomorrow morning (March 23rd) the Washington Stealth & Northwest Harvest will be outside Comcast Arena in Everett (on Broadway Ave) between the hours of 7am-10am. They are hosting a curbside food drive for Northwest Harvest. When you make a donation, you will receive a ticket voucher good for the Friday, March 25th Washington Stealth game against the Boston Blazers (you must redeem your voucher by noon on March 25th).

We know how much stuff couponers can get for free, so make a donation of free or inexpensive food items & get a free ticket to watch lacrosse. Win/win if you ask me!

Ivar's: BOGO Meal $1.06

I posted this deal last year, but forgot about it until just now when my dad reminded me. Today would have been Ivar Haglund's 106 birthday & to celebrate, all Ivar's locations will let you purchase a second entree for $1.06 when you say "Happy Birthday, Ivar!" (Note, the first entree is full price.)

Additionally, select desserts will be $1.06 at Ivar's Acres of Clams, Ivar's Salmon House, & Ivar's Mukilteo Landing. Yum!

New eCoupons Released

Cellfire & Shortcuts both released new eCoupons today. Take a look at what is available, load them up to your store's rewards card, & then when you swipe your card at the store, the eCoupons will come off automatically.

Seriously...saving money has never been easier. Go check them out!

Tasty Tuesday

My friend Heather over at Queen Bee Coupons posed the most delicious looking recipe for homemade rolls. Making your own bread, rolls, cinnamon rolls, etc. is very economical but I have a confession to make: Yeast scares me. I know that's stupid, but it's true. I've never made my own bread or rolls because the idea of dealing with yeast seems too intimidating!

However, these rolls look so delicious, I think I'm inspired to give this recipe a try. So, without further ado, I give you Heather's Grandma Ramona's Roll Recipe.

Thanks for the recipe & photo, Queen Bee Coupons! And thanks, Grandma Ramona!

Organic Prairie: 15% off Everything!

YES! Organic Prairie is offering 15% off everything (hams excluded; but they were already on sale) for 2 days. Use code: BEGIN311 at checkout. This sale is valid through midnight CT on March 22nd.

2 Gallery Wrapped Photos Only $39!

There are numerous daily deal sites out there & I get a lot of emails from them. Often the deals aren't that much of a deal (especially when you add in shipping costs).
However, today's deal from FamilyFinds is something I felt was worth sharing. $39 will get you a voucher for one 16"x20" photo wrapped canvas (3/4" think) & one 5"x7" photo wrapped canvas (same print) from Real Canvas Prints! If you have professional photos taken & have them on a disc or if you have some great photos you took with your camera, this is a great way to display your cherished memories without breaking the bank.

You can purchase as many vouchers as you like, but you can only redeem 1 voucher per order. Shipping is currently $11.95 for the mainland states (AK & HI higher). I still think this deal is a good value, even with the shipping added into the total cost. Don't worry about this voucher expiring before you can use it, because you have until 3/28/12 to use it!

I think I'm going to take advantage of this offer. If you to, purchase your voucher before they sell out!

Eating Organic on a Food Stamp Budget?

I found this great video online showing how eating organic food can be done on a very limited budget. Specifically, $33.48, the average weekly amount people in the US receive for food stamps. The menu is fairly limited for an entire week, but the point is you can do organic on a small budget (however, it would get pretty boring). Now, the total amount spent went about $5 or $6 over the food stamp allotment, but really....the total is impressive for a full week's worth of organic food!

I had no idea that some farmer's market accept food stamps! Shopping at farmer's markets are a great way to support your local economy & reduce your carbon footprint at the same time. Also, shopping the bulk section of your grocery store is a fantastic way to get organic ingredients at a very low cost. However, consider bringing your own reusable bags for those bulk ingredients; this reduces the amount of plastic bags that end up in our landfills.

Watch & leave a comment with your thoughts.

Drinking Straw Glasses $1 Shipped

I realize this deal is totally random & totally silly.....but I know my daughter would love these, so I had to share it with you. Today only over at 1SaleADay you can get a pair of drinking straw glasses for $1 with free shipping!

The Easter Bunny is going to order a pair for the little girl at my house. It will make a cute (& inexpensive) Easter basket item.

50% off Kid's at Lands' End + 6% Back!

Lands' End has a great sale on kids items with discounts going up to 50% off. There are plenty of cool weather items, & surprisingly....a decent amount of warm weather stuff is included in this sale. I found sandals, swimwear, short sleeved t shirts, & more.

If you shop at Lands' End via Ebates, you will get 6% back on your purchases! (Note: To get the 6% rebate, you must shop via the Ebates link.) Will 6% pay for that trip around the world? No, but it's a nice little rebate if you were going to purchase something from Lands' End anyway! Plus, if you're new to Ebates, you will get a $5 referral credit just for signing up!
If you find any great deals, leave a comment letting us know.

Rite Aid & Walgreens Deals

I didn't have time to do the drug store match ups again this week. However, I can't leave you hanging. So I am turning to my blogging friends for help.

Melody over at This Beautiful Frugal Life posted the best deals this week at Rite Aid. If you need to add deodorant to your stockpile, you can get 2 sticks of Lady Speed Stick free this week!

Angela over at The Coupon Project has some great Walgreens deals posted for you to check out. The $.99 Method hand soap caught my eye!

If you find some great deals at either store, leave a comment letting us know.

Kindle Games on Sale for $.99!

Amazon has a bunch of Kindle games on sale for $.99 (in addition to the free games). You can choose from games like Scrabble, Hangman 4 Kids, The New York Times 30 Challenging Crosswords, & more.

Remember, you can download the free Kindle apps for many other devices such as Android phones, iPads, iPhones, Blackberry phones, & more. Then you could take advantage of this deal & play the games on your existing device.

Thanks, The Frugal Find.

$70+ in Organic Groceries for $5.99!

If you follow my blog or any other frugal living blog, you know by now that deals go fast. I don't normally post deals that I have taken advantage of that sell out before I can share them with you, because it feels like I'm bragging or saying "neener, neener, neener, look what I got."

However, this deal is so amazing that it is a good example of why you need to be a fan of BMIM (& your other favorite blogs!) on Facebook, a follower on Twitter (yes, I'm finally joining the world of Twitter!), subscribe to get BMIM delivered to your email inbox, or subscribe via a RSS feeder. If you're simply checking the blog every day (which is great; I'm not complaining), you may miss out on deals that sell out lightening quick.

On Tuesday, my friend Jen over at Thrifty NW Mom posted a deal about how Amazon Fresh was giving $75 off any order of $30 or more to the first 1000 new customers. Since I'm a fan of Thrifty NW Mom on Facebook, I saw her posting right away; much faster than if I just randomly checked Jen's blog a few times a day. I was able to take advantage of the offer & got $72-ish worth of groceries for just $5.99 in delivery fees (my order was originally around $78, but they were out of an item, so they simply deducted it from my total).

Sadly, by the time I placed my order & went to post it on here, the deal had sold out. This is why it's vital to follow your favorite blogs by subscription, Facebook, Twitter, etc. to get the best deals!

I took a better photo of my order, but my daughter wanted to get in on the action, so of course I'm using the photo with her in it. In the photo above you will see I got:
  • 2 bottles of organic white grape juice

  • 1 jar of organic pasta sauce
  • 1box (6 ct) of organic fruit roll ups
  • 4 cans of organic chicken noodle soup

  • 1 box (5 ct) microwavable mac & cheese made with organic cheese

  • 1 box of an organic skillet meal kit

  • 1 box of taco shells

  • 2 packages of taco seasoning mix

  • 1 small container of organic raspberries (the most expensive thing I purchased...but it was a treat for my daughter!)

  • 3 organic apples

  • 2 lbs. of organic baby carrots

  • 1 head of organic lettuce

  • 1 lb. of organic ground beef

  • 1 lb. of organic ground pork

While I'm sad I wasn't able to share this deal with you, it's a good example of why staying connected to your favorite blogs (hopefully BMIM is one of them!) is vital if you want to get the best deals. Head over to BMIM's Facebook page & become a fan if you haven't, follow BMIM on Twitter, or subscribe via RSS or daily emails. Whatever your preference, staying connected to blogs will help you get the best deals.

Free S/H from E.L.F. Cosmetics

Back in the day (you know, the dual income, no kids day!) I used to exclusively wear MAC cosmetics. I still love MAC...but since I am a stay at home mom now, spending that kind of money on cosmetics just isn't a priority for me now.

About a year ago I tried E.L.F. cosmetics & I have to say....I love them. They are insanely cheap (prices start at $1!) & when you find a product that works well.....it works well. However, if you get a product that isn't good, it's pretty terrible.

So yes, the quality can be hit or miss. At these prices though, it's worth a shot! I have had the best luck with the powder blush & eye shadows & all of the lip products. Seriously, when the item is good....it's good. Almost as good as my trusty old MAC stuff!

Right now E.L.F. is offering free shipping on orders of $15 or more today only. Use the code: MODSHIP at checkout. Since the prices average between $1-$3, that's a lot of stuff you can get for your minimum order amount! Or consider getting the Mini Makeup Collection shown above; it's $15 & you get 27 items to try out!

If you have tried E.L.F. products before, leave a comment letting us know your thoughts. Like I said, they can be hit or miss. I find the low price is worth the gamble!

Lands' End: 25% off + Free S/H

I am in love with Lands' End. Just yesterday I called their customer service regarding an issue with the snow boots I bought for my daughter. The boots work fine but there is a cosmetic defect & guess what? Lands' End refunded the entire price & let me keep the boots (since really, they work fine)! I'm telling you, their customer service cannot be beat.

This weekend Lands' End is offering 25% off your entire purchase both in store & online. Your order will ship free, too! Stock up for summer or check out the overstock section & snag some bargains for next fall or winter.

Flirty Aprons 60% Off!

I love Flirty Aprons! Last year I bought one for myself & a matching one for my daughter (it's either precious or lame depending on what you think; I choose precious) & I must say, we have a great time in the kitchen wearing our matching aprons. The apron shown above is the one I purchased for myself & my daughter.

Right now there are select aprons on sale 60% off. Note that these are irregular, so there may be some minor issues with them. My apron is an irregular, & there was a tiny ink or grease stain near the lower hem. It's barely noticeable & I don't mind at all considering I got it for 60% off!

Thanks, Hip2Save!

I haven't purchased anything from Plum District yet, but this seems like a nice way to become familiar with them.
