Last Day for Amazon K Cup Sale

Remember, if you love your Keurig (& really, who has one & doesn't love it?!), today is the last day to score a fantastic deal on K Cups. Amazon has selected flavors from the Coffee People, Gloria Jean, & Diedrich on sale for 25% off. Details & selected flavors are here (there are even a few organic choices & some teas as well!).

I'm waiting for my box to arrive. It should be here today!

The New Dirty Dozen List

If you're considering switching to organic food, it can be overwhelming to do so all at once. Thankfully, there is an annual "Dirty Dozen" list of produce that contain the most residual pesticides & it is recommended to buy organic versions of these items. Typically these items are thin skinned (or no skin, such as leafy vegetables) & therefore the pesticides actually get into the flesh of the fruit/veggie.

This year, celery takes the number one spot. Additionally, blueberries & spinach are on the list (come on, after the spinach/e.coli issue recently, that's not surprising!). Here is the list:
  1. Celery
  2. Peaches
  3. Strawberries
  4. Apples
  5. Blueberries
  6. Nectarines
  7. Bell Peppers
  8. Spinach
  9. Kale
  10. Cherries
  11. Potatoes
  12. Grapes

You can read the entire article here if you're interested.

Don't Forget: New Old Navy Coupons Today

Don’t forget that Old Navy Weekly is gone but you can still get a new coupon a week online. Become a fan of Old Navy on Facebook, & then get a coupon by clicking on “Barker’s Bones” & digging for a coupon. They update them sometime every Thursday, but I just checked & it still hasn’t reset.

I'm not liking this promotion as much as Old Navy Weekly, but I suppose Old Navy likes it more. It seems the coupons aren't as good, in my opinion. What are your thoughts on it?

Thanks, Deal Seeking Mom for the link to the coupon!

Nielsen Looks at Coupons

Another interesting article on coupon usage from Nielsen. Here are a few interesting facts:
  • 83% of units purchased with a manufacturer coupon in 2009 were done so by 22% of households.
  • 38% of "super heavy" coupon users & 41% of "enthusiasts" come from households with incomes greater than $70,000.
  • In 2009, households with incomes greater than $100,000 were the primary drivers of coupon growth.
Click here for the entire article. It's very interesting & paints a picture that we (or at least some of us) already knew: Couponers don't fit into any one stereotype. Everyone is jumping on board!

20% Off at Lord & Taylor

30% off Everything at Old Navy

Talk about a nice sale! From 4/30-5/2 everything will be 30% off at Old Navy. The fine print states: "Offer valid from 4/30-5/2/2010 at Old Navy stores only. Not valid online. Discount applies to merchandise only, not value of GiftCards purchase...d, packaging or applicable taxes. No adjustments on previous purchases. Not valid for cash or cash equivalent. Cannot be combined with other offers or discounts including Gap Inc. employee discount."

I'm assuming that means we can't use a coupon from Barker's Bones (Facebook), but it can't hurt to try, right? If you CAN use a coupon, that would make the deal even sweeter!

Ella's Kitchen Review & Giveaway

Earth Week may be over, but I have one more organic giveaway for you! Ella's Kitchen offered to send me a sample & some freebies for a reader giveaway, & I jumped at the opportunity.

If you are unfamiliar with Ella's Kitchen, they are a company that started in the UK that is now selling organic baby food & fruit smoothies here in the US. The fruit smoothies probably aren't what you think of when you think of a smoothie, but rather, a pouch filled with smashed fruit. All of their products are made from 100% organic fruit & vegetables; nothing else. And I mean nothing else.

They sent a fruit smoothie for my daughter to try & it was aptly named "The Red One." They offer two flavors of smooths, the other being "The Yellow One." I have been giving my daughter smoothie/squeezer/fruit pouches for several years & am addicted to them because of the fact that they are a healthy option & so easy to take with you (she gets one in her lunch almost every day). I wasn't sure how my daughter would react to The Red One since it was a new brand, but after her first swallow she said "Mmmm....good!" When prompted as to what made it good, she replied "The berries & banana." Since it's all fruit, she could actually recognize the flavors, unlike some other snacks that are marketed to kids (I mean, really....when did blue raspberry become a flavor?!).
Ella's Kitchen sent three Stage 1 baby food pouches for one lucky reader to win! You get 1 pouch of Carrots, Apples, & Parsnips, 1 pouch of Broccoli, Pears, & Peas, & 1 pouch of Sweet Potatoes, Pumpkin, Apples, & Blueberries. Nice! Remember, these are all 100% organic, too. Where were these when my daughter was a baby? I made all of her baby food at home, but would have loved to have some of these to throw into a diaper bag for meals on the go. Talk about convenient!

To enter this giveaway, leave a message here (with a way to contact you). If you'd like a second entry, become a Facebook fan of BMIM, come back & leave another comment saying you did so. For a third entry, become a Google follower (public please!), come back, & leave an additional comment. For a fourth entry, blog about this giveaway or post about it on Facebook & come back, leave another comment & a link to your posting.

That's it. This giveaway will end 4/30/10 at 9 pm PST. The winner will be determined by Random.org. Good luck!

Click here to see a list of stores where you can purchase products from Ella's Kitchen. I didn't see Target listed, but I think certain Targets are carrying them now as well (don't quote me on that, though!). I am confident I will be making a trip this week to get more of The Red Ones for my daughter!

As always, you can read my disclosure statement here.

New SCR Month at Rite Aid

Today starts the May offerings for SCR (Single Check Rebate) at Rite Aid. What’s SCR, you ask? If you’re not familiar with it, Single Check Rebates is a promotion that Rite Aid runs every month (however the dates do not match the calendar month so be careful to check) where you get a specified rebate for items that are included with the promo. Most items are limited to one rebate per household unless otherwise noted. You can purchase one or all of the items featured during the SCR month, but you can only request ONE check per promo period. So, if you request a check & then purchase other items that are included, you’re out of luck. It’s essential you wait until you’re confident that you will not be buying anything else in the promo period before requesting your check. I recommend doing it at the very end of the period, or even a day or two after, to ensure you don’t lose out on any last minute deals. Then Rite Aid sends you a check that you simply cash.

You can score some very cheap, free, or even deals that make you money with SCR. I’ve made money on numerous items, especially if you use a coupon on the purchases. Yes, you get the full rebate value back EVEN if you use a coupon to buy the product! Pretty sweet deal, in my opinion.

Click here to see the offerings for this month. Some are valid for one week only (check the dates) & some are valid all month long.

Organic Feminine Hygiene Giveaway

Hey, don't forget to enter the giveaway for the box of organic cotton tampons & pantyliners. It ends tonight at 9 PST. Good luck!

Arbor Crest Gift Basket Giveaway

This is a giveaway I want to win! My friend Julie, over at SpokaneHomeGirl is giving away a gift basket featuring Arbor Crest wine. A giveaway with wine? Does it get any better?! Check out her blog & enter to win. Oh yeah...you must be 21 or over to win. HA!

Organic Score....I Saved 1/3

People are always asking me if it's really possible to save money while buying organic. I tell them it's possible, but certainly not as easy as saving money on non organic products. But it can be done.

Today I went to Fred Meyer & did pretty darn good! Here is what I purchased:

2 boxes Seventh Generation tissues
1 bottle Seventh Generation dish washing liquid
1 bottle Seventh Generation fabric softener
1 dozen organic brown eggs
Organic Valley string cheese
Organic Valley shredded Parmesan cheese
Kashi Oatmeal/Dark Chocolate Chunk cookies
Santa Cruz Organic Applesauce
2 bottles Santa Cruz Organic White Grape juice
2 half gallons Organic Valley milk
1 lb. organic boneless, skinless chicken breasts
Reese peanut butter cups (hey, a girl has to live!)

Total OOP: $30.79
Total Coupon Savings: $12.75

Pretty good, especially considering I didn't have a list & was just wandering the store, matching up sale items with my coupon binder. Hopefully this shows that yes, you can save money buying organic products!

Rite Aid Money Makers & Freebies

Update: I can't find the Ban coupon in my inserts from last week, so it might have been a regional coupon. Even if you don't have them, you can still do the Ban deal, & only spend $.48 after SCR for 4 deodorants. Not too bad!

Rite Aid has some great bargains this week & even a few money makers. Here are my favorites (deals start 4/25 & prices are the online price):

Ban Deodorant BOGO 50% Off
Buy 4 Ban (Powder Fresh 2.6 oz) x $3.49 = $10.48
- $1/1 (SS 4/18) x4 = -4

Submit for SCR & Get $10 back
= $3.52 Profit

Fred Meyer Money Maker on Cereal

So there's a pretty sweet deal going on right now where you can get 4 boxes of Wheaties Fuel & make a 75 cent profit. Here's the situation:

Buy 4 boxes of Wheaties Fuel $2 each = $8
- $1/1 Wheaties Fuel coupon (become a fan on Facebook & print out 2 per computer) x4 = -$4
OR - $.75/1 printable here x4 (will need multiple computers to do this)
- $.75 eCoupon from Shortcuts
= Pay $3.25
Get a $4 Catalina to use on your next visit to Fred Meyer
= 75 cent profit after coupons & Catalina!

And here's the best part...you have a few weeks to do this. The sale price on the cereal is good through 5/22, however the Catalina promotion ends on 5/16. Still, that allows you plenty of time to do this deal!

If you're not interested in this cereal for yourself, consider getting four boxes & donating them to your local food bank. They could use the donation & you'd still be making a 75 cent profit. Win/win for everyone!

Thanks to Frugal Chic Living for this money maker. (And glad to see you're blogging again, Crystal!)

$25 Gift Card for $2 at Restaurant.com

It’s baaaaack! Get gift cards to your favorite restaurants (or try a new one!) 80% off at Restaurant.com. If you aren’t familiar with Restaurant.com, it’s a site that sells gift cards to specific restaurants & they frequently run insanely good promos to get you to buy a card.

Through April 30th, enter code: MEAL at checkout to receive 80% off the already reduced prices. For instance, a $25 gift card normally sells for $10, but with the discount, you’d pay just $2!

Now, there are some guidelines to follow. Make sure you read the fine print for each restaurant, because they all have different minimum purchase amounts, some exclude alcohol, etc. But, even if you have to spend a minimum of $35 on food, you’re only paying $10 over the $25 gift card you purchased for $2, so you’d be spending a total of $12 OOP (out of pocket).

Click here to order stock up on gift cards. This really makes dining out quite affordable!

$10 off $10 Purchase at Aeropostale

Print out this coupon & use it through April 25th at Aeropostale to save $10 off any purchase of $10 or more. That means if you found something for $10, you'd just have to pay the tax. Pretty sweet!

Thanks to Deal Seeking Mom.

Giveaway: Organic Feminine Hygiene

This one's for the ladies. Well, if you're a man, feel free to enter & if you win, give the prize to a lady you care about. But, if you're a man & don't want to hear about "female stuff" stop reading now. Because words like cramps, period, & tampon will be abundant in this posting. Ok, you've been warned!

I've mentioned before the importance of organic cotton feminine hygiene, but only in passing. I decided it's time to explain why I believe that every woman should be using these products. Obviously, I won't convince everyone to switch, but my goal is to educate you & let you decide if switching is best for you.

The first time I saw organic tampons in the store I literally laughed out loud. I imagined hippies who only ate twigs & berries were the only people who would buy them...not "normal" people. Then I started researching cotton & how it is treated & I quickly learned why organic feminine hygiene products are so important to our health.

Let's talk about conventional cotton:

  • $2 billion worth of chemicals are sprayed on the global cotton crop annually.
  • Almost half of those chemicals are toxic enough to be classified as "hazardous" by the World Health Organization.
  • Cotton is responsible for the release of 16% of global insecticides; more than any other crop.
  • Cotton covers 2.5% of the world's cultivated land, yet it accounts for 24% of the world's insecticide market & 11% of the global sales of pesticides.
  • Aldicarb, the second best selling pesticide for cotton production, can kill a human with one drop absorbed through the skin, yet it is used in 25 countries, including the US, where 16 states have reported it in their groundwater.
  • Processing cotton uses many chemicals including silicone waxes, ammonia, formaldehyde & chlorine dioxide.

Did you read that? Formaldehyde? Chlorine dioxide? I'm ok with chlorine in a pool where I swim for an hour or two, but I'm not ok with sticking chlorine into my body basically 24/7 for 4 or 5 days each month. I realize I'm not a doctor, but I cannot believe that is healthy!

If those statistics weren't enough to convince you, here's something that might. I read that many women who switched to organic feminine hygiene products reported a decrease in PMS symptoms. Now that was something that certainly caught my eye! I'm happy to report, that this was true for me. By the second month, I found that my cramping was less during my period. By month 4 or 5 I would say my symptoms were at least half of what they were when I was using conventional tampons. Of course, I have no data to back this up, & maybe it's my mind playing tricks on me, but I'm telling you....my periods don't bother me nearly as much anymore.

There you have it. So many of us are careful what we feed our families, what cleaning products we use, the diapers we use, but rarely do we stop & think about what we are putting into our bodies on a monthly basis. If you aren't convinced yet, ask yourself this: Would I be comfortable with my daughter using conventional tampons knowing what chemicals are used? If the answer is no (which I'm guessing most parents would say), then mothers....you deserve the same thing for yourself.

Now for the giveaway. Because I know the best way to convince you is to have you try them, I'm giving away 1 box of Seventh Generation Organic Cotton tampons (non applicator) & 1 box of Natracare Organic Cotton pantyliners. Why applicator free tampons? Well, because I prefer them & they are better for the environment (less waste).

That's it. This giveaway will end 4/25/10 at 9 pm PST. The winner will be determined by Random.org. Good luck!

I was going to post this last night, but wanted to wait until today, since it's officially Earth Day. I didn't realize the extra 10% off was only good through today. Sorry for not posting it yesterday, which would have given you guys some extra time to browse the items. My bad!

Free Origins Cleanser

Don't forget to take your empty or nearly empty bottle of facial cleanser (any brand) to Origins today. You'll get a free, full sized bottle for Earth Day after trading in your old one. I love Origins products, so this makes me happy, happy, happy!

Free Bodywash at Walgreens Next Week

Starting Sunday, April 25th, Walgreens will have Tone Body Wash (18 0z) on sale for $3.99. Print out this $1/1 coupon &, pay $2.99 OOP, but get back $3 in RR, making this item free after coupon & RR. Don't forget to hit your back button & print out 2 coupons.

I'm not a big fan of body wash, so I'll likely be getting some & donating it to the food bank. Food banks are in desperate need of personal care items, since food stamps don't cover any non food items.

Thanks, Coupon Geek!

President Brie is on sale through Saturday at Freddie's for $3.99. Use the coupon & only pay 99 cents! That is an unheard of price for brie. I make a mean apple/cranberry baked brie, so you know I'm gonna go buy some.

CouponChief.com

I always want to share with you new ways to save money, so when I found out about a new coupon website, I was thrilled! You guys must check this out.

Couponchief.com is an awesome site & I think you're gonna get addicted to checking it for deals. Basically it's a huge database of coupon codes & you can search for just about anything. There are a ridiculous amount of stores listed, so you will likely find what you're looking for. Have a home improvement project scheduled for the near future? Search for "Home Depot coupons" & see what you can find.

But, here's where I think Couponchief.com gets even more interesting. They have a program called Pays-2-Share that is pretty sweet. If you know of an online code & don't see it listed, you can upload the info to Couponchief.com & anyone who clicks on it & makes a purchase using the code you uploaded will earn you a 2% commission on what they buy! For instance, let's say you get a code from LL Bean & you upload it. Every time someone searches for "LL Bean coupons" & uses the code you uploaded, you earn 2% of their total purchase amount. Nice! Note that not every store participates in the Pays-2-Share program, but regardless....it's still a great program.

Now that I've got you all excited about Pays-2-Share, you need to know the program has been put on hold for a while. Normally that would frustrate me, but it doesn't & here's why: They started another program called Coupons-4-Causes where charities can receive a % back from participating retailers. Again, not every retailer participates, but it's a fantastic option for a charity to earn some much needed cash! I can sacrifice Pays-2-Share for a while for charitable organizations to earn money & I'm sure most of you would agree.

I can't say enough good things about Couponchief.com. Really, you must check it out. If you are going to buy something online, it should be your first stop!

CouponChief.com invited me to peruse their vast supply of coupons in April. As always, if you want more information on my disclosure policy, click here.

Giveaway: Copy of "Spiced"

I am a foodie. I love food. In fact, for part of my freshman year of college my major was Hotel & Restaurant Management. I quickly changed that when I realized that loving to cook & loving food were one thing, but loving the idea of standing in a blazing hot kitchen for 12 hours a day was another thing. So when I was asked to read & review a book written by a pastry chef, I jumped at the chance.

"Spiced: A Pastry Chef's True Stories of Trials by Fire, After-Hours Exploits, & What Really Goes on in the Kitchen" is Dalia Jurgensen's memoir detailing how she left her day job to pursue her dream of becoming a chef. She ended up working in some of the most prestigious restaurants in NYC including Nobu, Layla, & Veritas & even worked in the test kitchen for Martha Stewart's television show.

While I was excited to read the book, at the same time I was also a bit worried that it might be well....somewhat boring. I couldn't have been more wrong. It is funny, inspiring, & eye opening. I had no idea about the drama that goes down in the kitchen of a restaurant! It was very easy to read, & I found myself not wanting to put it down. Always the sign of a good book, in my opinion.

I was graciously given two copies of "Spiced" by the publisher; one for me to read & one for me to giveaway. I think anyone who loves food, cooking, or is addicted to the Food Network will enjoy this book. Really, even if you're not a foodie, I think you'd enjoy it. I love the idea of how this woman did what so many of us are afraid to: She decided to follow her dreams, no matter what the outcome was. Pretty gutsy, if you ask me.

That's it! The winner will be determined at random by Random.org. The contest will end Wednesday, April 21st at 9pm PST. Enter now for a great book to read on your spring or summer vacation. Good luck!

(As always, if you have questions, you can read my disclosure policy here or click on the button in the left sidebar.)

LastMinuteTravel.com

If you're trying to plan a vacation, you're likely checking out websites like Priceline & Hotwire. Here's another to add to your list: LastMinuteTravel.com. There's a special reason I'm so excited about this site: You can use Bing to see your hotel before you pay to reserve it!

Do a search & it will provide you with a list of hotels. Click on each hotel & scroll to the bottom of the details. You'll notice there is a Bing map with an approximate area that the hotel is located in. Now click on "Birds Eye View" & voila! There's an aerial shot of your hotel.

Now, some of the shots are of more than 1 hotel, so you will need to do a little snooping around online to figure out which one it is. But this gives you the upper hand when it comes to reserving a room at a rock bottom price. My guess is that LastMinuteTravel will figure this out & remove Bing from their hotel descriptions, but for the time being....it's a huge benefit if you're planning a trip!

Yes, I realize becoming a fan will mean everyone & their brother will see that you became a fan of One Condoms. If you get any grief over it, simply point out the fact that hey, you have a reason to need it, & maybe they're just hating because they don't. That should shut anyone up.

Thanks to Good Deal Mama for this titillating freebie (I couldn't resist!).

DQ Blizzards B1G1 25 Cents

Next week (4/19 - 4/25) Dairy Queen will be offering up a sweet deal (bad pun, I know). Print out this coupon & buy 1 Blizzard & get your 2nd for only 25 cents at participating locations. They're offering up this deal because DQ's Blizzard treats are turning 25.

Yikes! I remember when they were first introduced & the awe they inspired. "Dude, did you see that...you can turn them upside down & nothing falls out." Now I'm feeling really old.

Anyway, thanks to Clippin' with Carie for the coupon. My daughter had her first Blizzard this past weekend, so I'm sure my hubby will take her in for a treat next week (assuming I can get him to use a coupon again).

Today Only: Outdoor Movie Screen $129.99

While I realize this doesn't seem like a bargain, trust me when I tell you, it is. If you've ever priced outdoor movie screens, you'll know I'm telling the truth. Today only, get this Airblown Inflatable Movie Screen with Storage Bag from Target for only $129.99 shipped. It's a massive 126" x 83"! Drive in? Who needs a stinkin' drive in when you can watch a movie under the stars in your own backyard.

Is this a bit of a luxury? Yes, of course. But imagine being the coolest parents on the block & how much fun your kids would have with this. Sometimes a splurge is worth it, & keeping your kids happy all summer long is definitely worth it, if you ask me!

Amazon Sale on K Cups

I know I've discussed my rather unnatural love for my Keurig coffee maker before. I adore that thing & wonder how I ever lived without it. Finding the best price on K Cups can be a challenge & I'm constantly searching for good deals on them.

Amazon has another great sale on them through April 30th where you can save up to 25% off Gloria Jean's, Diedrich, & Coffee People K Cups. Use code: KCUP5499 at checkout for 10% off your order & if you use Subscribe & Save, you get an additional 15% off plus free shipping. You are under no obligation to receive your next shipment; just wait until your order has shipped, then log in to your account, select "Manage Subscribe & Save Items" & cancel your subscribe & save selection. It's very easy to do.

Depending on which K Cup you select, you can get them as low as 31 cents per cup. There are many flavors to choose from, including several decaf options, tea, & organic options.

Everett Herald Deal

For my Snohomish County readers, this is a deal you cannot pass up! If you're thinking to yourself "Sure, I see these great deals on here, but I don't have the coupons needed for them" then this is a deal you can't pass up!

My friend Amber, over at Coupon Connections NW, secured a fantastic bargain on delivery of The Everett Herald, & I just signed myself & my parents up for it today. For only $50 you will get a 6 month subscription to the Herald with daily delivery & wait for it....5 Sunday papers delivered to your door! This is a great way to build up your coupon stash. And it's quite affordable, when you consider what you'd pay every week to get 1 Sunday paper.

Now, there are a few details on this deal. You can't change the amount of papers you receive during the promo (for example, no daily & 10 on Sunday or anything), if you choose to cancel early, you do not get a refund, & you must pay the full $50 up front. You can do a temporary start/stop or a vacation hold if you are going out of town, though. And you will get at least a 1 time renewal of this plan at the same price.

To get this smokin' deal, you must contact Diane Giese at the Herald directly. Her number is 425-339-3291. Tell her that Heather from Because More Is More sent you & you want the Coupon Connections NW deal. Diane will take care of everything from there & delivery should start right away.

If you want to start couponing, do not miss this deal. Thanks for setting it up, Amber!
