Free Glidden Samples for You & a Friend

Glidden is giving away 2 free paint samples through June 7th (while supplies last). When signing up here, you can add a friend's email & they will get a code for 2 free paint samples as well. If you want to send the samples to a "friend" that is a family member, hey, who am I to stop you? (wink, wink, nudge, nudge)

My husband & I were in Lowe's today trying to buy paint & take advantage of the rebate, but we couldn't decide on a color. I'm excited to get these samples & get them on my dining room wall so I can see which one will work best!

Thanks, Thrifty & Thriving!

Avert Your Eyes: $5/$15 Speedo Coupon

I am a coupon whore; regardless of whether or not I want the product featured in a coupon, I'll keep it because you never know when you can get something free with a coupon & then donate it. But....even I don't know why anyone would want a $5 off $15 Speedo coupon from Target.

If you want that coupon, print it now, because it will likely hit it's print limit soon. I was being sarcastic; it's actually a decent coupon. You can use it on any Speedo product, not just the original (& rather horrifying) Speedo's.

Free Tote Bag at Cost Plus World Market

Head into your local Cost Plus World Market & get a free tote bag with any $10 purchase. Don't forget to use the $5/$15 coupon I blogged about previously. Using that coupon will get you $15 worth of goods & a tote bag for only $10.

Also, remember to check out the organic items they have. It's actually a fairly good selection.

Thanks, Good Deal Mama for the heads up on the tote bag!

Travel: Eco Friendly Family Ranch

I wish we were traveling abroad in the near future, because this place sounds amazing! Rancho Margot is a family friendly, sustainable, self sufficient ranch in Costa Rica. They raise their own chickens, pigs, have a dairy herd, stocked fishing pond, organic garden, & more. Guests can leave it up to the staff, or help with the milking of the cows, collecting of the eggs, etc. It's up to you to do as little or as much as you want!

If you think your family would be bored there, think again. They offer mountain biking, horseback riding, rappelling, hiking, kayaking, even a lava adventure tour! From the looks of it, you could easily spend a week there & not fit everything in.

Here's why I think it's a bargain: They have 2 accommodation options. They have a bunkhouse for their volunteers or budget travelers that has 20 rooms that can sleep 2 people in each(bunk beds) & 5 showers & 5 toilets for the bunkhouse. The bunkhouse rates are $45/night for single occupancy or $70/night for double occupancy. If you crave more privacy or are traveling with your family, you can rent one of 18 bungalows. The bungalow rates are $104/night for single occupancy or $140/night for double occupancy. Additional guests in a bungalow are $40/night (with a maximum of 4 people per bungalow). Children 11 & under are half price in bungalows when accompanied by 2 adults & children under 3 are free.

All of Rancho Margot's accommodation rates include: breakfast, yoga classes twice per day, a guided ranch tour, internet access, & shuttle rides to & from La Fortuna.

I realize a trip to Costa Rico isn't really inexpensive, but foreign travel never is. However, these prices seem like a steal considering all you get for the daily rate & all the activities that Rancho Margot offers (however the activities are extra). If you're looking for a tropical vacation with a bit of adventure mixed in, check out Rancho Margot. Your kids would love hanging out with howler monkeys instead of some theme park mascot for a change!

Kee-Ka Organic Shirts Half Off

EcoBabyBuys is having a fantastic Memorial Day Sale! Enter code: memorialdaysale & get free shipping. If you purchase 2 or more items Saturday through Monday, you'll get a free surprise gift & everything will be combined & shipped on Tuesday. I love that; very convenient considering they are a one deal a day site.

Today's deal is 50% off organic shirts (long & short sleeve) & onesies from Kee-Ka. If you know, Kee-Ka products, you know they are adorable & so soft. They are made from 100% organic cotton & use low impact dyes & everything comes packaged in a ready to mail gift box made from recycled paper.

The shirts & onesies are on sale for $12.50. Considering you get them shipped free, this is an absolute steal for Kee-Ka products. But you must order today to get this deal, so don't wait too long!

Organic Cotton Blanket on Sale at CB2

CB2 is one of my favorite stores. I love their funky, eclectic, modern pieces. Right now they have this organic cotton blanket on sale for $39.95 in either the full/queen or king size. They normally retail for $69.95 or $79.95 (depending on the size).

I think the lime green is such a fun color! This would make a nice layering piece for your bed, or a nice throw to curl up with. I realize we're heading into summer, but it would make a nice blanket for cold nights at the beach or around a campfire. And at this price, you wouldn't have to worry too much about it getting dirty!

Lowe's Paint Rebate

In addition to the Home Depot paint rebate I posted a few days ago, there is another paint rebate for paint purchased this weekend. Lowe's is offering a rebate of $5 off selected 1 gallon cans or $20 off selected 5 gallon buckets. The paint must be purchased by 5/31/10 to qualify for the rebate. See your local store for all the details.

Also, you can get a free 2 ounce paint sample from Benjamin Moore through 6/30/10 with this coupon. These little samples are so much better than the little cards you get at the store. With these little samples, you can see what the color will actually look like in your room, in different lighting.

Thanks, CouponGeek for the links!

No Coupon Inserts

Holiday weekends typically mean slow coupon weeks in newspapers, & this weekend is no exception. There won't be any coupon inserts in tomorrow's paper. If you can still put a vacation hold on your subscription, you might want to do it.

For my local readers, there will be Albertsons doublers tomorrow however.

Aveda Freebie

I am a total product whore, so this definitely caught my eye. Print out this coupon & take it to your local Aveda salon/spa for a free sample pack. You'll get a sample of Aveda's Damage Remedy Shampoo, Conditioner, & Intensive Restructuring Treatment.

Thanks, SheSaved.

Teacher Survival Kit

I just saw this online & think it's adorable! Help your child(ren) make a Teacher Survival Kit for the end of school.

Supplies Needed

Penny
Eraser
Balloon
Crayon
Paperclip
Piece of facial tissue
Piece of string
2 marbles
Rubber band
Band-Aid
1 puzzle piece
1 Hershey's Kiss
1 Plastic Ziploc bag
1 Small gift bag
Poem printed out (or written out by your child)

Poem:

A penny so you will never be broke.
An eraser for those little mistakes.
A balloon so you can let out the hot air and release your worries.
A crayon to brighten your day.
A paperclip to hold it all together.
A tissue to wipe the tears and clean up the messes.
A string to tie up all those loose ends.
Marbles to replace the ones you lose.
A rubber band for flexibility when things don’t go as planned.
A band-aid to heal hurt feelings; yours and everyone else's.
A puzzle piece to remind you that you are an important piece of my life.
A Hershey's Kiss because everyone needs a little love now and then. Chocolate make everything sweeter!

Place all of the supplies inside the Ziploc bag & attach the poem to either the Ziploc bag or the gift bag. Place the Ziploc bag (aka, the kit) inside the gift bag.

All You Subscription Sale

All You has often been referred to as "the couponer's magazine" & for good reason. It has an insane amount of coupons in it every month. I had read about it numerous times, but the first time I saw it was at my hair salon & I have to say....I was impressed with the coupons in it.

Amazon has All You on sale right now & you can easily make up the price of the subscription by utilizing the coupons in it. A 1 year subscription is currently $19.95. However, you can get a 6 month subscription for just $10 to try it out. If you find the coupons are worthwhile, then renew your subscription.

You can check out the deal here. Just click through the subscription choices in the "subscription options" box to find the one you like best.

Free Photo Magnet

Kodak Gallery is giving away free magnets. You just need to pay the shipping, which appears to be running around a buck or so. This would make a cute little Father's Day gift, or if you have a photo of your child's class, a cute teacher's gift.

Thanks, Cindy.

Thanks for the heads up, Amber!

Tasty Tuesday

I'm going to attempt a new weekly posting called "Tasty Tuesday." It will consist of a yummy, thrifty recipe for you to try.

Today's recipe is courtesy of a loyal BMIM reader, Annie. She has a great blog called Work of Mouth that is all about food. A blog about food? Love it! I read this recipe for Carrot Soup, & knew I had to share it with you. I'm guessing many of you are gardening & will have an abundance of carrots soon, so this would make the recipe even thriftier.

Annie's Carrot Soup

  • 2 lbs carrots, peeled & chopped
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 4 cups vegetable stock
  • 1 cup half & half
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger (optional, but Annie swears by it!)
  • salt & pepper to taste

1. Put the stock in a large pot and bring to a low boil. Add carrot pieces & simmer for a while. The softer the better, so don't stress.

2. Sauté your onions in a bit of oil until slightly translucent. Add the cumin powder, salt, and pepper before you take the onions off the heat.

3. Add the onions to the simmering carrots and broth. Simmer some more.

4. Heat some oil in your skillet again and drop in the julienned ginger. Fry until golden brown and drain on a paper towel. Sprinkle a little salt on top for extra flavor.

5. When the carrots are nice and soft, pour the broth and vegetables into a blender. Add the half and half & purée the mixture until it's a smooth, gorgeous orange color.

6. Put the purée back into your pot & add the butter. Stir until melted & well integrated into the soup. Heat to desirable temperature again (if necessary).

7. Serve with the fried ginger sprinkled on top.

This should serve 6 & most of the ingredients are things you likely have in your kitchen already. I can't wait to make this. Thanks, Annie!

Free Radio Flyer License

This is just too cute not to share! Click here to create a free license for your kids from Radio Flyer. You enter in your child's info, upload a photo, select a Radio Flyer for their "wheels" & then can print out what looks like an official driver's license from Radio Flyer. I don't know a single child that wouldn't love this!

Thanks, Tara.

Private Car Seat Checks & Consults

If you know me in real life, you know that I am passionate about car seat safety. Some might call me obsessive. But with good reason; up to 90% of car seats are either installed or used incorrectly, children are 5 times safer rear facing, & child restraint laws are outdated (if they even exist).

My good friend & loyal BMIM reader Coleen is a certified Child Passenger Safety Technician located in Connecticut. She runs a business called Little Riders & will come to your home, office, or just about any location (within reason, people!) to do a private car seat inspection & education session for you. If you just need help deciding on what seat to purchase, you can schedule a phone consult & discuss what type of seat will work for your child based on your vehicle, child's height, weight, & other variables, learn about extending rear facing or high weight harnessing, or discuss if your child is ready to move up to a booster. She will help you with any questions you have about child passenger safety.

There is no magical "best" car seat out there. However, Coleen will help you determine what the right seat for your needs is & if you live near her, she'll make sure you have it installed properly & know all the safety features with it.

Check out her website here or "Like" her Facebook page (Little Riders LLC). She has graciously extended a 10% off discount on all services to BMIM readers. Thanks, Coleen!

Extra Savings from Alice

I love Alice....it's a great site, free shipping, & the prices are reasonable (not free like you can get with coupons, but still resaonable). They just introduced a new feature which is very cool.

When shopping on Alice, they have online coupons which reduce the prices of certain products. If you share the deals with your friends, you save even more. Look for the "Share It" button on items, click on that & share the deal with your friends on Facebook, & you get an even bigger discount on the products. How cool is that?

For my Facebook friends, be prepared to see me sharing Alice deals. I'm just giving you the heads up now!

New England/Canada Cruise $599

I've always wanted to go to New England in the fall. If you're like me, listen up, because this is a great deal!

Contact The Cruise Company if you want more information. The dates are Sept. 11th or 21st.

Laptop Lunches 41% Off

I've known about Laptop Lunches for a long time, but my husband just saw them on tv last week & thought we should get one for our daughter. Lo & behold, they are on sale 41% off today only at EcoBabyBuys!

If you aren't familiar with them, they are bento style lunchboxes that do not contain BPA, phthalates, or lead & are made in the USA. They are eco friendly since you are using less packaging products for lunches (think about how many sandwich baggies & wax paper you use). Each one comes with a book of healthy lunch ideas to break away from the old standards & you can sign up for weekly emails with a lunch menu to keep you inspired. Anything that gets kids to try new things is a great idea, in my opinion!

If you've been waiting to try Laptop Lunches, this is the perfect time to get one. I doubt you will find them for less than the $19.99 they are on sale for, but that price is only good today, so order now!

Free Tugaboo Diapers at Rite Aid

Rite Aid has their own brand of diapers called Tugaboos. I've seen the trial packs in the store several times but never paid attention. However, if you need diapers, this might be worth noting!

The trial packs are 99 cents & contain three diapers (I think it's three...maybe only two). In the trial pack is a $1/1 coupon for your next purchase of Tugaboos. It's being reported that you can use the coupon on any size package...including the trial size, which means free diapers.

Transaction 1:
Buy 1 trial pack: 99 cents

Transaction 2:
Buy 1 trail pack: 99 cents
- $1/1 coupon
= Free

You can repeat transaction #2 as many times as you wish using the enclosed coupon. I have no idea how good these diapers are, but at this price, definitely worth trying.

If you like the Tugaboo diapers, they are going on sale tomorrow for $6.99 per pack & will have a $2 SCR on them as well. Print out this $1/1 coupon (good on jumbo size packs) or use the $1/1 coupon from the trial pack & get a pack for $3.99 after coupon & SCR.

Thanks, Deal Seeking Mom.

There is usually a $1 off Dawn Hand Renewal with Olay coupon in there. I used mine a week or so ago with an Albertsons doubler & got it for free (& donated it)!

Thanks, Coupon Katarina.

Kids Bandages for 27 Cents at Target

Target has a sweet deal this week! This week you can get Strawberry Shortcake Nexcare bandages on sale for $1.77.

Remember this coupon I previously posted for $1/1 Nexcare product? Print it out & print out this 50 cent/1 Target Nexcare Kids Bandage coupon. Use both of them to get a box of Strawberry Shortcake bandages for only 27 cents!

Thanks Carie, for the heads up.
