Ella's Kitchen Review & Giveaway
They sent a fruit smoothie for my daughter to try & it was aptly named "The Red One." They offer two flavors of smooths, the other being "The Yellow One." I have been giving my daughter smoothie/squeezer/fruit pouches for several years & am addicted to them because of the fact that they are a healthy option & so easy to take with you (she gets one in her lunch almost every day). I wasn't sure how my daughter would react to The Red One since it was a new brand, but after her first swallow she said "Mmmm....good!" When prompted as to what made it good, she replied "The berries & banana." Since it's all fruit, she could actually recognize the flavors, unlike some other snacks that are marketed to kids (I mean, really....when did blue raspberry become a flavor?!).
To enter this giveaway, leave a message here (with a way to contact you). If you'd like a second entry, become a Facebook fan of BMIM, come back & leave another comment saying you did so. For a third entry, become a Google follower (public please!), come back, & leave an additional comment. For a fourth entry, blog about this giveaway or post about it on Facebook & come back, leave another comment & a link to your posting.
That's it. This giveaway will end 4/30/10 at 9 pm PST. The winner will be determined by Random.org. Good luck!
Click here to see a list of stores where you can purchase products from Ella's Kitchen. I didn't see Target listed, but I think certain Targets are carrying them now as well (don't quote me on that, though!). I am confident I will be making a trip this week to get more of The Red Ones for my daughter!

You can score some very cheap, free, or even deals that make you money with SCR. I’ve made money on numerous items, especially if you use a coupon on the purchases. Yes, you get the full rebate value back EVEN if you use a coupon to buy the product! Pretty sweet deal, in my opinion.

Organic Score....I Saved 1/3
Today I went to Fred Meyer & did pretty darn good! Here is what I purchased:

Total OOP: $30.79
Total Coupon Savings: $12.75
Pretty good, especially considering I didn't have a list & was just wandering the store, matching up sale items with my coupon binder. Hopefully this shows that yes, you can save money buying organic products!

$25 Gift Card for $2 at Restaurant.com
Through April 30th, enter code: MEAL at checkout to receive 80% off the already reduced prices. For instance, a $25 gift card normally sells for $10, but with the discount, you’d pay just $2!
Now, there are some guidelines to follow. Make sure you read the fine print for each restaurant, because they all have different minimum purchase amounts, some exclude alcohol, etc. But, even if you have to spend a minimum of $35 on food, you’re only paying $10 over the $25 gift card you purchased for $2, so you’d be spending a total of $12 OOP (out of pocket).

Eat at Ikea for $1

(Offer not valid at Ikea Hicksville, Ikea Houston, & Ikea Direct.)
Giveaway: Organic Feminine Hygiene
I've mentioned before the importance of organic cotton feminine hygiene, but only in passing. I decided it's time to explain why I believe that every woman should be using these products. Obviously, I won't convince everyone to switch, but my goal is to educate you & let you decide if switching is best for you.
The first time I saw organic tampons in the store I literally laughed out loud. I imagined hippies who only ate twigs & berries were the only people who would buy them...not "normal" people. Then I started researching cotton & how it is treated & I quickly learned why organic feminine hygiene products are so important to our health.
Let's talk about conventional cotton:
- $2 billion worth of chemicals are sprayed on the global cotton crop annually.
- Almost half of those chemicals are toxic enough to be classified as "hazardous" by the World Health Organization.
- Cotton is responsible for the release of 16% of global insecticides; more than any other crop.
- Cotton covers 2.5% of the world's cultivated land, yet it accounts for 24% of the world's insecticide market & 11% of the global sales of pesticides.
- Aldicarb, the second best selling pesticide for cotton production, can kill a human with one drop absorbed through the skin, yet it is used in 25 countries, including the US, where 16 states have reported it in their groundwater.
- Processing cotton uses many chemicals including silicone waxes, ammonia, formaldehyde & chlorine dioxide.
Did you read that? Formaldehyde? Chlorine dioxide? I'm ok with chlorine in a pool where I swim for an hour or two, but I'm not ok with sticking chlorine into my body basically 24/7 for 4 or 5 days each month. I realize I'm not a doctor, but I cannot believe that is healthy!
If those statistics weren't enough to convince you, here's something that might. I read that many women who switched to organic feminine hygiene products reported a decrease in PMS symptoms. Now that was something that certainly caught my eye! I'm happy to report, that this was true for me. By the second month, I found that my cramping was less during my period. By month 4 or 5 I would say my symptoms were at least half of what they were when I was using conventional tampons. Of course, I have no data to back this up, & maybe it's my mind playing tricks on me, but I'm telling you....my periods don't bother me nearly as much anymore.
There you have it. So many of us are careful what we feed our families, what cleaning products we use, the diapers we use, but rarely do we stop & think about what we are putting into our bodies on a monthly basis. If you aren't convinced yet, ask yourself this: Would I be comfortable with my daughter using conventional tampons knowing what chemicals are used? If the answer is no (which I'm guessing most parents would say), then mothers....you deserve the same thing for yourself.
Now for the giveaway. Because I know the best way to convince you is to have you try them, I'm giving away 1 box of Seventh Generation Organic Cotton tampons (non applicator) & 1 box of Natracare Organic Cotton pantyliners. Why applicator free tampons? Well, because I prefer them & they are better for the environment (less waste).
To enter this giveaway, leave a message here (with a way to contact you). If you'd like a second entry, become a Facebook fan of BMIM, come back & leave another comment saying you did so. For a third entry, become a Google follower (public please!), come back, & leave an additional comment. $20 off Any Order from The Company Store
I love The Company Store, so I was super excited to find this deal! Use code: SLUMBER & get $20 off any order (no minimum). I scored 2 t shirts & 2 pairs of shorts for my daughter & only paid $9.91 ($5.95 of which was shipping). If your order is less than $20, get it free & only pay the $5.95 in shipping!
They have lots of stuff to choose from, too. Clothing, home decor, bedding, etc. Let me know what kind of deals you find.
Thanks, Money Saving Mom!
CouponChief.com
Couponchief.com is an awesome site & I think you're gonna get addicted to checking it for deals. Basically it's a huge database of coupon codes & you can search for just about anything. There are a ridiculous amount of stores listed, so you will likely find what you're looking for. Have a home improvement project scheduled for the near future? Search for "Home Depot coupons" & see what you can find.
But, here's where I think Couponchief.com gets even more interesting. They have a program called Pays-2-Share that is pretty sweet. If you know of an online code & don't see it listed, you can upload the info to Couponchief.com & anyone who clicks on it & makes a purchase using the code you uploaded will earn you a 2% commission on what they buy! For instance, let's say you get a code from LL Bean & you upload it. Every time someone searches for "LL Bean coupons" & uses the code you uploaded, you earn 2% of their total purchase amount. Nice! Note that not every store participates in the Pays-2-Share program, but regardless....it's still a great program.
Now that I've got you all excited about Pays-2-Share, you need to know the program has been put on hold for a while. Normally that would frustrate me, but it doesn't & here's why: They started another program called Coupons-4-Causes where charities can receive a % back from participating retailers. Again, not every retailer participates, but it's a fantastic option for a charity to earn some much needed cash! I can sacrifice Pays-2-Share for a while for charitable organizations to earn money & I'm sure most of you would agree.
I can't say enough good things about Couponchief.com. Really, you must check it out. If you are going to buy something online, it should be your first stop!
CouponChief.com invited me to peruse their vast supply of coupons in April. As always, if you want more information on my disclosure policy, click here.

Giveaway: Copy of "Spiced"
"Spiced: A Pastry Chef's True Stories of Trials by Fire, After-Hours Exploits, & What Really Goes on in the Kitchen" is Dalia Jurgensen's memoir detailing how she left her day job to pursue her dream of becoming a chef. She ended up working in some of the most prestigious restaurants in NYC including Nobu, Layla, & Veritas & even worked in the test kitchen for Martha Stewart's television show.
While I was excited to read the book, at the same time I was also a bit worried that it might be well....somewhat boring. I couldn't have been more wrong. It is funny, inspiring, & eye opening. I had no idea about the drama that goes down in the kitchen of a restaurant! It was very easy to read, & I found myself not wanting to put it down. Always the sign of a good book, in my opinion.
I was graciously given two copies of "Spiced" by the publisher; one for me to read & one for me to giveaway. I think anyone who loves food, cooking, or is addicted to the Food Network will enjoy this book. Really, even if you're not a foodie, I think you'd enjoy it. I love the idea of how this woman did what so many of us are afraid to: She decided to follow her dreams, no matter what the outcome was. Pretty gutsy, if you ask me.
That's it! The winner will be determined at random by Random.org. The contest will end Wednesday, April 21st at 9pm PST. Enter now for a great book to read on your spring or summer vacation. Good luck!

LastMinuteTravel.com
Do a search & it will provide you with a list of hotels. Click on each hotel & scroll to the bottom of the details. You'll notice there is a Bing map with an approximate area that the hotel is located in. Now click on "Birds Eye View" & voila! There's an aerial shot of your hotel.
Now, some of the shots are of more than 1 hotel, so you will need to do a little snooping around online to figure out which one it is. But this gives you the upper hand when it comes to reserving a room at a rock bottom price. My guess is that LastMinuteTravel will figure this out & remove Bing from their hotel descriptions, but for the time being....it's a huge benefit if you're planning a trip!

Get a Free Condom
Yes, I realize becoming a fan will mean everyone & their brother will see that you became a fan of One Condoms. If you get any grief over it, simply point out the fact that hey, you have a reason to need it, & maybe they're just hating because they don't. That should shut anyone up.
Thanks to Good Deal Mama for this titillating freebie (I couldn't resist!).
DQ Blizzards B1G1 25 Cents
Yikes! I remember when they were first introduced & the awe they inspired. "Dude, did you see that...you can turn them upside down & nothing falls out." Now I'm feeling really old.
Anyway, thanks to Clippin' with Carie for the coupon. My daughter had her first Blizzard this past weekend, so I'm sure my hubby will take her in for a treat next week (assuming I can get him to use a coupon again).

Everett Herald Deal
My friend Amber, over at Coupon Connections NW, secured a fantastic bargain on delivery of The Everett Herald, & I just signed myself & my parents up for it today. For only $50 you will get a 6 month subscription to the Herald with daily delivery & wait for it....5 Sunday papers delivered to your door! This is a great way to build up your coupon stash. And it's quite affordable, when you consider what you'd pay every week to get 1 Sunday paper.
Now, there are a few details on this deal. You can't change the amount of papers you receive during the promo (for example, no daily & 10 on Sunday or anything), if you choose to cancel early, you do not get a refund, & you must pay the full $50 up front. You can do a temporary start/stop or a vacation hold if you are going out of town, though. And you will get at least a 1 time renewal of this plan at the same price.
To get this smokin' deal, you must contact Diane Giese at the Herald directly. Her number is 425-339-3291. Tell her that Heather from Because More Is More sent you & you want the Coupon Connections NW deal. Diane will take care of everything from there & delivery should start right away.
If you want to start couponing, do not miss this deal. Thanks for setting it up, Amber!
