Get Deals & Earn Money with MooLaLa

There's a brand new daily deals site called MooLaLa. It's so new, the daily deals haven't even started yet. You will want to sign up right away, though. Here's why: You can earn money via MooLaLa.

They call it the PayMatrix. When you make a purchase, they will pay you 2% of your purchase price. When you a friend you refer signs up, you earn 2% on their purchases. You'll also earn 2% on purchases made by your friends' friends, your friends' friends' friends purchases, & your friends' friends' friends' friends' purchases! It sounds more confusing than it is; it's a 2% 5 tier payment level.

Here's the best part: the 2% payment isn't a 1 time deal. They will keep paying you 2% on those purchases forever. I suppose that could change at some point, but as it stands now, that's their policy.

My advice is to sign up for MooLaLa right away & start inviting your friends. Earn 2% off their purchases & not the other way around!

Thanks, Heather for the heads up!

10 Lessons We Learned in 2010

As I reflect on 2010, here are 10 lessons I think we, as a society, have learned this year.

  1. Clipping coupons is cool again. People no longer assume the only ones clipping coupons are 75 year old grannies with 11 cats. Couponing has become socially acceptable across the socio economic spectrum.

  2. Bartering is cool again. People have embraced the concept that they have skills that are valuable. Trading services such as income tax filing for yard maintenance is a win/win for everyone (assuming it is an equitable trade).

  3. Imaginary money is just that...imaginary! Raiding retirement plans or using the equity in homes "because it's a sure thing" isn't a sure thing...as so many people painfully learned this year.

  4. Downsizing doesn't mean downgrading. Whether it was a smaller living space, smaller car, or a shorter commute many have realized that bigger isn't always better.

  5. Free is cool again! Free movies, kids eating out free at restaurants, public libraries, etc...we're no longer ashamed to take advantage of freebies.

  6. Be grateful for the job you have. With so many unemployed people waiting for a job, the idea that "they can take this job & shove it" has become a distant, faded memory.

  7. Luxuries are just that...luxuries! People have realized that designer purses, exotic trips, home theater systems, etc. are nice...if you can afford them. Going camping is better than losing sleep trying to figure out how to pay for that trip to Maui.

  8. Cooking is cool again. Americans are eating out less & relying on processed foods less. Real honest to goodness meals at home are not only healthier, they cost less. And we're lovin' that (unless of course, you work in the food services industry!).

  9. Repairing items is often better than replacing them. People are keeping their cars longer, having tailors mend garments, refinishing furniture. etc.

  10. Save is no longer a 4 letter word. If you had told someone 5 years ago to increase (or simply start) their savings, they likely would have called you a worrier. Oh what a difference 5 years makes! People are saving money now; it may not be a lot given the current economy, but the notion of a savings account or emergency fund is something most of us have embraced.

These are just my observations. Feel free to agree or disagree with any of them. If you have another lesson you think we've learned in 2010, leave a comment & let us know!

Start Swagging Now For Next Christmas!

The end of the holiday season is here...along with the end 2010. If you haven't signed up for Swagbucks yet, now is the perfect time to do so. Why? Because you have the entire year ahead of you to earn Swagbucks!

Imagine that all of your presents for next December were free. Yes, free. If you start saving your Swagbucks now, that could be a reality. I know several people that experienced that this Christmas (or at least, the majority of their presents were free). How would your family benefit from that financial relief? Personally, I used over $160 in Amazon gift cards this past year (not all at Christmas) & still have enough Swagbucks for $60 more.

You're probably asking "What's the catch?" I can honestly tell you, there isn't one. You create an account, use the search engine as usual, & earn Swagbucks (there are other ways to earn them as well, but searching the web is the main way). You then convert your Swagbucks into gift cards, prizes. etc. There is no annoying spam, no hoops to jump through....it really is that easy.

If you want to reduce your budget for 2011, sign up for Swagbucks. You can buy virtually anything from Amazon, so get your stuff free using gift cards that you earned at Swagbucks. If you're going to be searching online anyway, why not get rewarded for doing so?

$10/$50 at Loft Through Sunday

Go "like" LOFT (formerly Ann Taylor Loft) on Facebook. Once you do, you will be able to print off a coupon for $10 off a $50 purchase that is valid through Sunday. Considering they likely still have items on sale after the holidays, you should be able to score some great deals!

$1/1 Coffeemate Coupon

Print out this $1/1 Coffeemate coupon & score some free or inexpensive creamer. Rumor has it that we're getting Albertsons doublers this weekend, & this would be a great coupon to pair with a doubler!

Possible Baby Alive Doll $1.24 at Target

It's being reported that some Targets have Baby Alive dolls on clearance for $6.24. Use this $5/1 Baby Alive Simple Care for Me coupon & get the doll for $1.24!

Target seems to have no rhyme or reason to how they clearance items across the nation, so YMMV (your mileage may vary) with this deal. Also, you may or may not find the correct Baby Alive deal on clearance.

Why would you want a toy deal so soon after the holidays? Valentine's Day, Easter, etc. are all coming up. Or stash this away for the inevitable birthday parties your children will get invited to all year long. Or Toys for Tots for next year!

Thanks, Mama Cheaps for the great find.

BMIM in 2011

Change is a comin' in 2011 for BMIM & I'm excited about it. In addition to what I already have planned, I'm working on my business plan for the next year.

So....what would you like to see from BMIM in the upcoming year? Are there features you would like added to the site? Do you have a story idea you would like me to cover? A series that you would like to read that would where I take one subject & break it down in a more in depth way? I'm open to all ideas.

Let me know what you think would be valuable to you in 2011. After all, my goal is to help you!

Today Only: 50% off Body Shop Orders

UPDATE: SheSaved found a code for free shipping with a $25 order! That makes this deal even sweeter! Just enter the code: NEWYEAR25 at checkout.
I missed this deal yesterday, so unfortunately you only have today left to take advantage of it. However, it's a fantastic bargain, so it's worth considering.

Here is some aluminum free deodorant for $2 (cheaper than drug store brands!) that normally sells for $8. Or banana shampoo for $1.50 that normally retails for $8.99 (I've used this shampoo before & it smells divine!). Or soap for $1 that typically sells for $4.

This would be an excellent time to stock up on your eco friendly or organic products. 50% off can't be beat!

50% Off Everett Silvertips Tickets!

I am not a big sports fan, but I love hockey. This deal is exactly my type of deal! Through Sunday you can purchase 2 tickets for lower level seats at an Everett Silvertips game for $20 (normally $40). There are 6 games to choose from.

This might be my first HeraldNet Daily Deal purchase. I told you...I love hockey! Purchase your voucher now to get in on the action, too.

My Thoughts on Extreme Couponing

It appears my trepidation about Extreme Couponing was justified. While some of what was shown makes perfect sense, a lot of what was shown will likely cast couponers in a bad light. Let me share a few of my thoughts about this special with you:
  • Donating items you can get free (or very inexpensively) is always a great thing to do. I do it myself. I don't buy 1100 boxes of cereal, but hey...that's just me. If you can pick up an item for free, consider getting it, even if it's a brand you don't use. Food banks need donations now more than ever, especially on non food items.

  • Only buy what you need for 3 months. Unless it is a screamin' deal, don't go overboard. There will always be a similar deal approximately 12 weeks down the road. Buy what your family can realistically use for 3 months at a time. There is a fine line between stockpiling & hoarding.

  • Show others how you do it. Give a coupon to someone in a store if you aren't using it. Be generous not just with your donated goods, but with your couponing knowledge.

  • You can save money on healthy items using coupons! If I had a dime for every time I heard "there are never any coupons out there for things that are healthy" I would be so rich I wouldn't need to clip coupons (HA!). My family primarily eats only organic products. We almost exclusively use eco friendly cleaning products. Yet we save anywhere between 25-40% utilizing coupons.

One thing I want to make very clear is this: You do not need to devote 70 hours a week to couponing. That's insane. I write a coupon/bargain blog & I don't spend that much time on it. The very notion is both laughable & disturbing at the same time. Suggesting you need 70 hours to coupon does a disservice to anyone starting out because it will likely prevent them from starting.

Along the same lines, put your couponing in perspective. When I first started, I quickly got hooked on the thrill of a deal. A few months into my couponing adventures, I got sick....really sick. Like, in bed for 2 weeks, some of the days are a foggy memory because of the fever & medicine type sick. However, I do remember being slightly panicked a few times because I was wondering "What type of deals am I missing?" I'm pretty embarrassed to admit that. So take it from me, the sun will continue to rise even if you miss a deal. I promise!

Lastly, I debated on whether or not I should take any of the people featured on this show to task or not, but I'm going to do it. This is my blog, & I'm going to call 'em as I see 'em. Here goes: Amanda, shame on you! You would rather spend time running to stores for 1 deal than spend time with your husband or friends? You buy 40 years worth of toilet paper, yet you mention nothing about donating anything to charity? You purchased over 200 boxes of pasta, which you brought home to your own stockpile, rather than donating it? Now more than ever food banks need donations, & yet you have $15,000 worth of stockpiled items in your home. You have a $35,000 insurance policy on your stockpile. I'm going to call a spade a spade: You're being selfish. And a little crazy.

Amanda, now that I'm done chastising you, I implore you to seek help for your addiction. You seem to have a compulsion to shop; it appears you will never be satiated. Your comments "the bigger it is, the better I feel" about your stockpile or "when I look at my toilet paper, the feeling it brings to me is absolute joy" make me question your reasons for couponing. Is your self worth based on the size of your stockpile? Please, please, please consider seeking the help of a professional. You deserve to live a healthy, happy life...regardless of how many tubes of toothpaste you have.

If you have any thoughts about Exreme Couponing, I'd love to hear them. Feel free to leave a comment here or over on BMIM's Facebook wall!

Extreme Couponing on TLC Tonight

TLC will be airing a special tonight at 8pm titled Extreme Couponing. I am somewhat apprehensive about this special.

I love how they are highlighting people using coupons to stretch their budgets. I think it will show a lot of people that yes, you can in fact save money...a lot of money...clipping coupons. What worries me though, is that these people are not the norm. Nor are these shopping trips their normal shopping trips (at least, I hope they don't shop like this on a regular basis!). Here is an excerpt from TLC's show description:

"TLC will introduce four of the country's most coupon-obsessed savers who will do anything for a deal. Their game is simple - get as MUCH as possible for as LITTLE as possible. But these extreme couponers aren't just looking to save a few dollars here and there. Instead, they're looking to cash in on some serious savings and they're doing it by any means necessary - dumpster diving for coupons, charting weekly store circulars, creating elaborate math formulas and stocking up on as many products as possible."

This is what troubles me. The idea of "getting as much as possible as little as possible" simply for sport casts a bad light on couponers. There is a fine line between creating a stock pile of items that your family needs & hoarding free stuff.

I am looking forward to watching Extreme Couponing tonight. I plan on having an open mind when I do. If nothing else, it should be entertaining.

$40 Diapers.com Voucher as Low as $15

UPDATE: This is ONLY good for Pampers. I'm so sorry guys; I thought it was good on any items sold at Diapers.com. My bad!

At 9pm PST, Plum District will start a hot deal: Purchase a $40 Diapers.com voucher for $20. If you're a new Plum District customer, you will get a $5 credit to use on your first purchase (must use within 7 days). That would bring your total down to $15 for $40 worth of merchandise!

Don't need diapers? No worries. Diapers.com sells all kinds of great stuff. How about this 18 oz. Klean Kanteen on sale for $12.99 (already a fantastic price!)? Or Dr. Bronner's Organic Hand Soap in Lemongrass Lime for $8.99? Look at this cute JJ Cole Blanket for $29.95; it's 5'x5' & folds into an included travel case. This would be the perfect blanket for picnics, the beach, or to have in the car in case of an emergency.

Create your Plum District account now & get ready to buy this voucher right away. I'm guessing it will sell out very quickly!

If you've never ordered from Diapers.com before, they have lightening fast shipping. I received my order within 1 day when I ordered from them previously.

Free 64oz. Carton of CoolJuice

If you want to score some free juice, head over to Facebook & "like" CoolJuice (go like BMIM while you're there!). Then email ShoutOut@CoolJuice.com letting them know you liked them on Facebook & provide them with your mailing information. CoolJuice will send you a coupon good for a 64 oz. carton of their juice.

While this juice isn't organic, it contains no HFCS (high fructose corn syrup), no preservatives, no added sugar, no artificial colors, & no artificial flavors.

Cottonelle Toilet Paper 42 Cents Per Roll

It's slightly embarrassing how excited when I find a great deal on toilet paper. One that is a great deal & is delivered to your door is even better; no schlepping required!

Amazon currently has Cottonelle Aloe & E double rolls on sale for $23.88 for 48 rolls. Use the subscribe & save option & save 155, bringing your total down to $20.30 or just $.42 per roll. This also includes free shipping (free 2 day shipping if you join Amazon Mom).

Toilet paper deals aren't very exciting. However, it's a necessary purchase & getting it as cheaply as possible is worth it in my opinion!

Thanks for the tip, Frugal Coupon Living.

Wow: 3 Years of Parents for $5.99!

This is a smokin' deal! Head over to Tanga & add a 3 year subscription to Parents magazine to your cart. Then enter the code: PARENTS at checkout & your total will drop to $5.99...for all 3 years! Note: This is for new subscriptions only.

Parents has been having 20% off diapers coupons every month for the last few months that allow you to get fantastic deals on diapers. If you have children in diapers, this deal would easily pay for itself.

Thanks, Mama Cheaps!

I highly recommend Hanna Andersson & at these prices, you cannot go wrong.

Mexican Organic Produce: Is It Really Organic?

I'll admit that as much as I've researched organic products, I knew little about products from Mexico that are labeled organic. I wondered if these items were really organically farmed & if they were subject to the same regulations as domestically farmed organic produce.

I'm happy to report, the answer appears to be yes. In order for any food to be certified organic, it must meet the USDA's National Organic Program (NOP) regulations that went into effect in 2002. In 2006 the Mexican government published their Law of Organic Products & regulations will be issued soon. What I found most important was this: any produce labeled organic that is grown in Mexico must be certified from a USDA accredited agency (there are at least 15 organic certification agencies in Mexico).
I always recommend buying locally when possible. This supports your community & reduces your carbon footprint. However, getting fresh produce in the middle of winter means buying produce grown elsewhere (unless you live in a warm climate!). Now I feel confident knowing that the organic produce grown in Mexico is grown in the same manner as organic produce grown in the US.

For more information on this subject, read this very informative article published by PCC Natural Markets. Thanks for the info, PCC!

Thanks again to Sara for donating the earrings.

Merry Christmas

As adults we often lose focus on the real meaning of Christmas. However, the message of Christmas is really quite simple. Here's a great reminder that the most simple things can also be the most profound.

From the bottom of my heart, have a Blessed & Merry Christmas.

$30 in Organic Kids Apparel as Low as $5!

Head over to Eversave where you can purchase a $30 voucher for $15 for bioME5 organic kids apparel. However, if you're a new Eversave customer, you will get a $5 credit just for signing up. Plus, if this is your first Eversave purchase, use the code: FIRSTBUY to get an additional $5 off. Which would mean you would be getting $30 in organic kids clothing for just $5! If you look at the clothing, the words are written upside down. At first I couldn't figure out why, so I did some digging around. bioME5 prints them upside down on purpose so that when your child looks down at his/her shirt, the word is right side up. How cute & ingenious!

If you have purchased deals from Eversave before & have to pay the full $15, half off organic kids clothing is a great deal. If you know anyone expecting a baby, buy the voucher & get a fantastic eco friendly baby shower gift!

Thanks Abby, for the new customer discount code!

Albertsons Doublers + Organic Coupons

If you still have some Albertsons doublers to use up, consider printing out some organic coupons & pairing them with a doubler. Yes, organic & eco friendly products cost more. However, with a doubler, you can often get the products for less than conventional ones.
Here are a few places you can go to get printable organic or eco friendly coupons:

Obviously these are just a few sources for organic or eco friendly coupons. Print out what looks good & head to Albertsons with your doublers in hand. Any time you can save big on organic items is a stock up time!

Norad & OnStar Team Up!

I'm sure you're familiar with NORAD, but if you aren't, here's the scoop. It's a cute website that tracks Santa's progress on Christmas Eve, complete with videos of Santa flying over landmarks such as the Great Wall of China, Big Ben, etc. We have loved ones in Australia, so we're always looking out for Santa flying over the Sydney Opera House.

This year NORAD goes even more high tech: If you have an OnStar equipped vehicle, press the OnStar button any time on Christmas Eve & locate Santa! What a cute way to keep your kids entertained while driving to holiday events.

$5/$25 Top Foods Coupon

If you're hosting any gatherings this week, print out this $5/$25 Top Foods coupon. It's valid through 12/24 & there are a few exclusions, but it's still a great coupon.

Thanks, Queen Bee Coupons.

Tasty Tuesday

Today's recipe comes from my good friend & BMIM reader Leslie. She made the most amazing eggnog at a holiday party. It was so good I had to ask her for the recipe. This eggnog is sinful. It tastes nothing like the eggnog you buy at a store. It's decadent & frothy & yummy & I'm craving it at this very moment. Thank you Leslie for sharing your secret recipe with us!

Leslie's Eggnog

6 eggs, separated
3/4 cup sugar (separated into 1/2 cup & 1/4 cup)
1 pint whipping cream
1 pint milk
1 pint whiskey
1 ounce rum

While beating just the yolks, mix in 1/2 cup sugar. Beat the egg whites until very stiff & add in 1/4 cup sugar. Combine the egg white mixture with the egg yolk mixture. Then stir in the whipping cream, milk, whiskey, & rum. Serve chilled with a pinch of nutmeg on top.

Free 2 Day S/H with Any Origins Order

If you still need a gift & don't want to head to the mall, place an order from Origins. Any order will receive free 2 day shipping (look for something under $20 & make it super economical)! Use code: 2DAYFREE at checkout. This offer is valid through 3pm PST on December 22nd. Plus, gift wrapping is free (just pick the gift wrap option at checkout)!

$50 in Organic Bath Products Only $17

Mamapedia has another great deal this week! Right now you can grab a voucher for $50 worth of Babo Botanicals bath products for $22. However, if you're a new Mamapedia customer, you will get a $5 credit just for signing up, bringing your total down to $17.

It's worth nothing that Babo Botanicals don't have the USDA or QAI logos on them (at least that I can see), so they probably aren't certified organic. Rather, they are made with certified organic ingredients (confusing, I know). Regardless, they are tear free, vegan, biodegradable, sulfate free, & the packaging is BPA & phthalate free & is recyclable!

This would be a great way to try the product line & see how it works for your family. Or buy one of the baby gift sets & have an affordable, yet eco friendly baby shower gift! Either way, purchase your voucher before they sell out.

Hanna Andersson: Twice a Year Sale

The big Twice a Year HannaSale is going on now a Hanna Andersson. You can save up to 60% off both in store & online!

Additionally, receive a Spring Savings card from an associate in store or with an online order placed before 1/2/11. Then redeem your card for 20% off Spring hannas (regular price) January 10th - January 30th.

This is a great way to save on organic cotton or Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certified cotton items. Hanna Andersson uses European sizing, so I've often found my daughter can wear their clothing for 2 seasons (& they look amazing wash after wash!). I highly recommend Hanna Andersson!

BMIM is 1 Year Old!

I can't believe it. Where did the time go? Time has a way of marching on, & today BMIM turns 1 year old.

It seems like just yesterday that I created this blog with no idea of what I was doing. My friends kept telling me "You should start a blog" so I did. (I secretly think they were sick of seeing me posting deals on my Facebook wall!) I had no idea what I was doing, but I took a leap of faith & started BMIM.

Guess what? You guys seem to like it. I'm so humbled that you come back, read the blog, comment on Facebook, & email me tips. As a blogger, we often wonder if anyone is reading; it can feel like we're alone in some alternate universe for us. However your comments & emails make the blog more interactive, & I appreciate them so much!

Thank you from the bottom of my heart. You are the best readers a blogger could ask for. Bigger & better things are in store for the second year of BMIM. I hope you stick around for the ride!

Hot KitchenAid Mixer Deals!

If a KitchenAid is on your Christmas list (& really....who doesn't want one?), pay attention. Amazon has various styles on sale & the deals are amazing. Here are a few worth noting:

These both come with free super saver shipping, however if you sign up for Amazon Mom, you get a 90 day trial of Amazon Prime....which gets you free 2 day shipping on all orders for 90 days! Trust me, I've put my Amazon Prime membership to very good use this holiday season!

I absolutely love my KitchenAid mixer & think it's an amazing investment. I love a deal, but I also love quality items. A KitchenAid mixer is worth the extra money. When you can get a quality item at such a reasonable price, you need to jump on it!

Thanks for the tip, Janelle!

$50 in Organic Kids Clothes Just $22

Eversave has another great deal on organic cotton clothing. Purchase a $50 voucher for ScoutCollection for $22 when you use the code: TOYS at checkout.

ScoutCollection is based in Oakland, CA. The clothing is made from organic cotton & fair trade manufactured. Sizes go up to 7/8. Orders of $50 or more also get free shipping, so you won't have to pay for shipping when you use your voucher (because your order will be $50 or more).

Let’s talk conventional cotton. Here are a few facts about how conventional cotton is farmed:

  • $2 billion worth of chemicals are sprayed on the global cotton crop annually.

  • Almost half of those chemicals are toxic enough to be classified as “hazardous” by the World Health Organization.

  • Cotton is responsible for the release of 16% of global insecticides; more than any other crop.

  • Cotton covers 2.5% of the world’s cultivated land, yet it accounts for 24% of the world’s insecticide market & 11% of the global sales of pesticides.

  • Aldicarb, the second best selling pesticide for cotton production, can kill a human with one drop absorbed through the skin, yet it is used in 25 countries, including the US, where 16 states have reported it in their groundwater.

  • Processing cotton uses many chemicals including silicone waxes, ammonia, formaldehyde & chlorine dioxide.

Those facts are why I believe organic cotton is so important. However, it can be hard to find & usually costs significantly more than conventional cotton. So I'm excited to see this ScoutCollection Eversave deal!

Lastly, 5% of Save proceeds will be donated to Toys for Tots. What are you waiting for? Purchase your ScoutCollection voucher now!
