Back to School Deals 8/29-9/4

Once again, here is the back to school list for several of the major retailers, courtesy of my blogger friends.

Office Max deals courtesy of yours truly.
Office Depot deals from Thrifty NW Mom.
Clothing deals from Centsible in Seattle.
Staples deals from This Beautiful Frugal Life.
Rite Aid deals from Coupon Connections NW.

Free Kidorable Umbrella or T-shirt!

See that insanely cute fairy umbrella? Yeah, I just got it for free! I did have to pay shipping, but my daughter is obsessed with all things fairy, so this will be a cute little gift for her (shhh....don't tell!). Here's the deal:
Kidorable is giving away free umbrellas or embroidered t-shirts. Simply go to their site, click on "product line" & then click on either "umbrellas" or "embroidered t-shirts." If you'd like to get the umbrella, add one to your cart & use code: modfreeumb08. If you want the t-shirt, add one to your cart & use code: FREESHIRT8.
Either deal will require you pay $7.95 in shipping, but that's still a bargain. The t-shirts cost more, so you'd get more bang for your buck. But here in the NW, we have a lot of rain, so I opted for the umbrella. How could I resist it?!
Thanks, Rockin Deals!

The Body Shop: B2G1 Free

The Body Shop just started their buy 2 get 1 free sale on all skin care products. Stock up now while you can score the freebies! While I didn't see any certified organic products, I did see many made with organic ingredients, so take a look at those.

This deal is available both in store or online. Shipping is a flat $5.95 or free with orders $50 or more. Click here to get started.

I realize the weather isn't great today, but regular prices for adults are $10, kids ages 6-15 are $7, & kids 6 & under are free. Obviously this would be quite a savings for a family or group of friends. Come on....we live in the NW....we can handle a little rain! Details are here.

Free Dove Damage Therapy Samples

Free Smashbox Product 9-2 PST

Every Tuesday & Thursday Smashbox has a deal called “Let’s Do Lunch” where they give you a free gift with any order between 9-2 pm PST. Today’s gift is this Waterproof Shadow Liner (shade: Starstruck) that retails for $22! I love this shade & think it would go great with the new fall fashions! Just place an order & after you hit submit & the freebie will show up on your order.

Additionally, you can become a Pretty Points member which has lots of perks (free shipping, points earned for all your purchases, bonus deluxe sample, birthday gift, etc.). If you’re gonna buy something, you may as well get free shipping & other bonus items, right?

Lastly, you get the “Let’s Do Lunch” freebie on any purchase, so make it as cheap as you can (unless you really have a specific item in mind). The Curtain Call section is items that are on sale, so pick one of those.

Organic Farming Information

PCC Natural Markets posted this article which is an excellent read regarding the myth that organic farming won't sustain our population. In fact, organic farms typically produce the same or more crops than farms that use chemicals. Additionally, if government subsidies were removed from our agriculture, organic foods would actually cost less than their conventional counterparts.

It also discusses the toxic chemicals found in produce, the effect on our environment (where do you think those chemicals go? into the water which runs off & we end up drinking!), the disposal of chemicals in other nations, etc. My guess is that if you read it, you will start to see why buying organic products whenever possible is so important. I recommend you take a few minutes & read it; it's definitely eye opening!

Lean Cuisine BOGO Free Coupon

Go "like" Lean Cuisine on Facebook & then click on the tab that reads "the scoop." You will then be able to print out a BOGO free coupon for Lean Cuisine Market Creations. Don't forget to hit the back button twice after it starts printing to generate a second print!

PCC, oh how I love you.....for so many reasons. The newest reason is the Big Day of Play tomorrow from 9:30-5 at Magnuson Park in Seattle. Tomorrow will be all about getting families active together with events like 3 on 3 basketball, a fun run, paddling & boating, gardening, & more! There will be music & food from different cultures & of course, samples of food from PCC along with recipes. All the details are here.

We used to head down to Magnuson every Saturday for my daughter's soccer, but she told us a few weeks ago she "wasn't feeling soccer anymore." Since we love Magnuson Park & PCC, this is a good reason to head back down there!

Free Photo Book from Shutterfly

If you're an existing Shutterfly customer, check your email inbox ASAP. I received an email today for a free 8x8 photo book (valued at $29!). This code isn't an online promo code, so unfortunately I can't share it. They sent specific emails out to specific customers (& no, I don't know how they determined who to send them to).

I just wanted to give you guys the heads up to keep an eye out for an email from Shutterfly. It definitely isn't spam!

Free Subscription to Spin

If you know a music lover, sign them up for a free year of Spin magazine. These deals go quickly so act now if you want this freebie!

New Walgreens Coupon Policy!

We've been asking for this for ages & it's finally here! Walgreens now has an official coupon policy on their website. Print this out & keep it in your coupon binder or wallet to prevent any hassles.

They clearly state you can get items for free & they will adjust down the coupons. They clearly state you can use 2 coupons on BOGO sale items as long as the price doesn't go below zero, which means you won't get any overage, but you should get them both free. They clearly discuss RR's (both earning & redeeming).

This really is big news for those of us who shop at Walgreens. Thank you, thank you, thank you, Walgreens!

Gap's Give & Get Sale

I love this promo! The Gap has a Give & Get sale going on where you get 30% off everything you buy & 5% of what you spend goes to a charity you select (there are 6 to choose from). The stores that are participating in this event are:
  • The Gap
  • The Gap Outlet
  • Banana Republic
  • Banana Republic Factory Store
  • Old Navy
  • Piperlime
  • Athleta

Tell your friends about this (you can even hit the icons at the bottom of this posting to share) & spread the word. The more people that participate, the more money that is raised for charity!

The Body Shop: 20% off Everything

The Body Shop is running their Friends & Family sale through 8/29/10. Get an extra 20% off everything...including sale items....when you use the code: FF10. This discount is only valid online.

Now is a great time to stock up on body butters or lotions; winter is around the corner & that typically means drier, itchier skin! Take a look at the organic items The Body Shop offers, as well!

Today's Groupon deal is a "hot" one (I know, bad pun!). If you live in South Snohomish County, check this out. You can get 10 Birkram Yoga classes for $20 (regularly $120) at Birkram Yoga Everett on 128th. Click on the "more great deals nearby" box to the right of the main Seattle deal to view it.

$2 Evergreen State Fair Admission!

If you still plan on heading up to Monroe to check out the Evergreen State Fair, here's a deal for you. My good friend & loyal BMIM reader, Janelle, just told me about how to get in for $2!

On Tuesday, August 31st you can get general admission tickets for $2 before 2 pm. Regular prices for adults are $10, kids ages 6-15 are $7, & kids 6 & under are free. Obviously this would be quite a savings for a family or group of friends. Details are here.

Thanks for the tip, Janelle. This leaves more cash for the essentials....scones, elephant ears, corn on the cob, etc!

French Toast Uniform: $15000 Contest!

For many of you school has started already & in my household it will start next week. If your kids attend a private, charter, or public school that has a dress code (1 in 5 public schools now do!), you need to hear about this!

I know I've mentioned it before, but this contest is so amazing, it's worth repeating. French Toast Uniform has a contest called "Show Us the Real 'U' in Uniform." They are asking kids to either send photos or a video with a short essay (300 words maximum) about what makes them unique & proud of themselves when wearing their uniform. The winner of this contest will receive $10,000 & $5,000 in vouchers from French Toast to the school that the winner attends!

I love that this contest has a strong focus on creating positive self worth in kids & also in giving via the uniform vouchers for the school. Both of these are important lessons for children to learn.

Ten finalists will be chosen around the first part of November & the winner will be announced on or around November 30, 2010. You have until September 15, 2010 to enter. Click here for all the information & to enter.

French Toast invited me to partner with them as a Brand Ambassador. If you have any questions regarding my disclosure policy, you can read it here.

Target Shoppers: Check Your Receipts

Today on the BMIM Facebook wall, Erika, a reader, asked me if I had heard about Target not giving the full value of a MQ when it required you purchase more than 1 item to redeem it (in her case, a $2/2 MQ). I was stunned that she didn't get the full amount off automatically & that she had to ask a manager to override the beep. She bought both items, so the $2 should have come off no questions.

Well, then I read this. It appears Target has changed their computer system in regards to redeeming coupons & this problem is now common place with couponers across the nation. Why on earth they would only give people partial value on a coupon when they will receive the full amount is beyond me.

Something stinks like yesterday's diapers about this. I certainly hope Target corrects the error, but in the meantime check your receipts! Make sure you get the full value of your coupons & if you need to, get a manager involved. My guess is that heading into the holiday season, Target will want to keep business, not drive it away, so this will be resolved. One can only hope!

Alaska Airlines Fares Starting at $39

Alaska Airlines has a great deal on airfare right now, but you must book by 8/31/10. However, the travel dates for these fares are 9/8/10-12/15/10, so you have plenty of time to plan a fall getaway.

Prices start as low as $39 one way. A few I saw that looked appealing were:
  • Seattle to Boise, $59 one way
  • Seattle to San Francisco, $69 one way
  • Portland to Phoenix, $79 one way
  • Los Angeles to Los Cabos, $104 one way

Click here to search for airfares for your next trip.

High Value Qdoba Coupons!

I've never been to Qdoba but I keep hearing that I need to try it. Now I have a reason to! Head over to Qdoba's website & try your luck at their online game. It appears everyone wins some kind of coupon, but the coupons vary. I got a free entree with the purchase of a drink coupon.

If you really love Qdoba you're gonna love this promotion. You can get a new coupon every day for the next 6 weeks/ That's a lot of Qdoba though, if you ask me!

Thanks, Money Saving Mom.

Hurry if you want this one, because today is the last day to sign up! Zappos always features free shipping, but if you become a Zappos VIP you can get free overnight shipping on any order. Perfect for those shoe emergencies!

Thanks for the tip, Ten Talents.

Office Max Deals 8/22-8/28

So....Office Max is confusing me this week. I didn't receive an ad in any of my 5 papers, nor did my parents in any of the 6 papers they receive. However, my friend Christy over at Thrifty & Thriving told me she did get an insert, but it's an odd one.

Apparently some areas received a paper bag from Office Max & if you bring that bag into an Office Max near you, you will get 20% off anything you can fit inside the bag. Additionally all furniture, storage drawers, totes, boxes, & printer accessories are on sale.

What did catch my eye was when Christy mentioned that Sharpie single mini markers, highlighters, & pencil sharpeners are on sale for $.10 each (limit 3 of each). Also you can get Scotch Magic Tape doughnut dispensers or Post It 2x2 cubes, 400 sheets (limit 2 of each) for $1.

So there you have it....not the best deals this week for at Office Max. I do know that other areas around the US have better deals, so if you're not in the NW, look online & see what you find. Also, if you stop by a local Office Max & get a screamin' deal, leave a comment & let us know.

$25 Worth of Healthy Products Just $7!

Rockin' Green Detergent Giveaway

I am always on the lookout for green products to try out & this one was recommended by Kathleen, a BMIM reader, so I figured it had to be good. She was right!

Rockin' Green is exactly that....a green laundry detergent that well...rocks. It is biodegradable, 100% phosphate free, dioxin free, petroleum free, animal by-product free, & never tested on animals.

I realize that all of that is fine & dandy, but you really want to know if it works. Rockin' Green was actually developed to launder cloth diapers, however it works fantastic on all kinds of laundry. I was sent the Classic Rock formula in the Motley Clean scent (I love a company with a good sense of humor!) & have been using it for a few weeks now.

If you read the FAQs you will see that some loads of laundry might smell worse after using Rockin' Green & I found that to be true with my towels. The reason is because many other detergents actually leave a residue that builds up over time & Rockin' Green is actually getting rid of the grime that has been building up. They tell you exactly what to do to get rid of the problem on their website & then your laundry should just smell....clean. I actually think my towels smelled a bit funky because I didn't do the extra rinse cycle that was recommended for my machine. I remembered to do it for all my other loads & didn't notice any funky smells.

You can use it in both top & front loading machines & they even have handy dandy instructions on their FAQ page that lists most HE machines & how to use Rockin' Green for each machine.

Rockin
' Green has generously offered to send some detergent in The Plain Green Tea's scent to one lucky BMIM reader! Here's how to enter this giveaway:
  1. Leave a comment stating why you would like to try Rockin' Green (see, that was easy!) with a way to reach you.
  2. Become a Facebook fan of Because More Is More & leave a comment stating you did so (if you're already a fan, just leave a comment letting me know).
  3. Become a fan of Rockin' Green on Facebook & leave a comment telling me you did so.
  4. Become a Google follower (public, please!) of Because More Is More & leave another comment letting me know you did so (& if you already are, leave a comment letting me know).
That's it! You have until August 29th at 9pm PST to enter. The winner will be picked at random using Random.org. Good luck!

I'm posting this because I care about my peeps & don't want any BMIM readers getting sick! If you aren't aware, there is a recall right now on eggs. There is a potential that some eggs are contaminated with Salmonella.

The eggs that are being recalled are packaged under the following brand names: Lucerne, Albertson, Mountain Dairy, Ralph’s, Boomsma’s, Sunshine, Hillandale, Trafficanda, Farm Fresh, Shoreland, Lund, Dutch Farms and Kemps & come in cartons of varying sizes. You can read all about the recall including how to read the dates & codes on your egg cartons to determine if they are involved in the recall here.

Green Toys Tea Set Just $15.50

We got my daughter this Green Toys tea set a few years ago & she loves it! I love it because it's made from recycled milk jugs, so it's eco friendly. There are no no phthalates or BPA in this set. And it's made in the USA!

Amazon has it on sale for $15.50 (normally $24.99). I paid the regular price & think it is totally worth it, so at this price, it's a steal in my opinion. If you know a little one that would love a tea set, you should definitely check this one out!

Tasty Tuesday

Summer is coming to an end, but we all probably have Labor Day BBQ's to get ready for. This salad is delicious, easy to make, & has no mayo in it so you can take it outside & not worry about getting sick (always a good thing!). It's from Pampered Chef, however you cannot purchase the recipe card collection any longer (at least, I couldn't find it online). So, I'll share it with you guys, because I'm generous like that.

Fruity Couscous Salad

1 1/2 cups water
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup uncooked plain couscous
1 tablespoon vegetable oil
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1 medium Granny Smith apple, cored & chopped
1/2 cup dried apricots, diced
1/2 cup sweetened dried cranberries
1/4 cup thinly sliced green onions with tops
1/4 cup sliced almonds, toasted (I'm lazy & never toast these)

In a small saucepan bring the water & salt to a boil. Stir in couscous; cover & remove from heat. Let stand 15 minutes, then fluff with a fork.

Meanwhile zest one orange to measure 1 teaspoon zest. Juice oranges to measure 1/4 cup juice. In bowl, combine zest, juice, oil, & cinnamon; whisk until blended.

Add couscous, apple, apricots, cranberries, & green onions to orange juice mixture; mix well. Cover & refrigerate at least 2 hours to allow flavors to blend. Stir in almonds just before serving.

Free S/H from Organic Prairie

Yes! Organic Prairie is once again offering free shipping ($15 value)! Use code: OPGRILL10 at checkout (the code is valid through 8/29/10).

I ordered 6 organic pork roasts last time they had the free shipping & have already used 3 of them, so I will likely be placing another order. Why not when the shipping is free?

BOGO Athenos Feta Cheese Coupon

Go to Facebook & "like" Athenos (& "like" BMIM while you're there) & print out a BOGO Free coupon for Athenos feta cheese. I'm totally craving gyros just thinking about feta!

Thanks, Sybil.

Day 3 of Walgreens 7 Days of Deals

Today only from Wags get 60% off any size collage print. These are always fun to do with photos from soccer, a trip, etc. Select in store pick up & you won't pay any shipping fees, either (although I'm not sure if all of the sizes are available for in store pick up)!

Fantastic Deal on Photo Books

Remember when I told you about the free photo book from Picaboo? Picaboo is offering up a free Classic Photo Book (retail up to $39) for new customers! Use code: FREEBK at checkout & just pay $8.99 in shipping. You have until 8/31/10 to use this code.

One of today's Groupon deals is also from Picaboo. The deal is for Oklahoma City, but anyone can buy it & use it since Picaboo is an online retailer. Today only you can purchase $100 worth of photo books from Picaboo for just $25! And....your $100 credit can be used for tax & shipping! Here is the fine print on this deal taken directly from Groupon:

"Expires in 1 year. Limit 1 per person. Limit 1 per order. May use across multiple orders. No cash value. Valid for tax & shipping. Valid with other offers. Redeem starting 8/19."

This is a great way to make photo books for an unbelievable price. And since you have a year to use this credit, you will have plenty of memories from holidays, trips, school plays, etc. to fill your books! Just remember to get your free book first if you're a new Picaboo customer.

Smashbox Freebie 9-2 PST Today

Every Tuesday & Thursday Smashbox has a deal called “Let’s Do Lunch” where they give you a free gift with any order between 9-2 pm PST. Today’s gift is this eyeshadow (shade: Smoke) that normally retails for $16! You could make a seriously smoky eye with this shadow & a nice kohl eyeliner!

BMIM Reader's Save Big

Look at all this stuff Kathy, a BMIM reader, got at Top Foods last week. Here is a breakdown of the products in the photo: 58 jars Earth's Best organic 2nd stage baby food (normally $1.29 ea), 2 packs Huggies Snug & Dry diapers, 36 count (normally $13.99 ea), 3 tubs Huggies wipes, 72 count (normally $3.99 ea), 2 tubs Seventh Generation wipes, 70 count (normally $4.99 ea), 1 Johnson & Johnson lotion (normally $5.99), 3 Wallaby organic yogurts (normally $1.29 ea), & 6 Everett Aquasox tickets.

Here's the best part: Kathy only paid $29.09 & saved $102.96! So the next time you think you can't save money on organic items or wonder if clipping coupons is worth your time, think of Kathy's massive score. That will certainly change your mind!

Thanks for sending in the photo, Kathy. And thanks for reading BMIM.

If you have a great shopping trip & want to share it with BMIM readers, snap a photo of it & email it to me. I love seeing you guys save money & it inspires all of us!

Built NY Lunch Totes $6.29 & Up

I love Built NY products because they are cute, eco friendly, & most importantly functional. These totes are made from polypropylene, are lead & food safe, & are insultated, too!

Right now these are a steal at Amazon. Prices are $6.29-$6.98 & will ship free if your total is $25 or more (or if you have a Prime membership). Actually, there is a tote that is selling for $5.62 but there is no image for that one, so I have no idea what it looks like.

Use your Amazon gift cards from Swagbucks & get these free!
Thanks again, Rockin' Deals!

Free Space Needle Admission

UPDATE: I called & here's the scoop: You go, get a ticket, & have to come back at an assigned time. They said it could be 9-10 hrs later (assuming you go first thing). So....while it's free, it might be a bit of a hassle. Be prepared to leave & come back, or make a day out of it & explore downtown.

Friday, August 13th, you can head to the top of the Space Needle without paying a dime! Bausch & Lomb are hosting this event & I think it's a great freebie!

There are some reports that this is only for the first 10,000 people, however I've read other reports that don't mention a limit, so beware that you may or may not get a free ticket depending on when you go. The observation deck is open 9 am - 12 am.

Thanks, Coupon Connections NW!
