Eating Organic on a Food Stamp Budget?

I found this great video online showing how eating organic food can be done on a very limited budget. Specifically, $33.48, the average weekly amount people in the US receive for food stamps. The menu is fairly limited for an entire week, but the point is you can do organic on a small budget (however, it would get pretty boring). Now, the total amount spent went about $5 or $6 over the food stamp allotment, but really....the total is impressive for a full week's worth of organic food!

I had no idea that some farmer's market accept food stamps! Shopping at farmer's markets are a great way to support your local economy & reduce your carbon footprint at the same time. Also, shopping the bulk section of your grocery store is a fantastic way to get organic ingredients at a very low cost. However, consider bringing your own reusable bags for those bulk ingredients; this reduces the amount of plastic bags that end up in our landfills.

Watch & leave a comment with your thoughts.
