Target Shoppers: Check Your Receipts

Today on the BMIM Facebook wall, Erika, a reader, asked me if I had heard about Target not giving the full value of a MQ when it required you purchase more than 1 item to redeem it (in her case, a $2/2 MQ). I was stunned that she didn't get the full amount off automatically & that she had to ask a manager to override the beep. She bought both items, so the $2 should have come off no questions.

Well, then I read this. It appears Target has changed their computer system in regards to redeeming coupons & this problem is now common place with couponers across the nation. Why on earth they would only give people partial value on a coupon when they will receive the full amount is beyond me.

Something stinks like yesterday's diapers about this. I certainly hope Target corrects the error, but in the meantime check your receipts! Make sure you get the full value of your coupons & if you need to, get a manager involved. My guess is that heading into the holiday season, Target will want to keep business, not drive it away, so this will be resolved. One can only hope!

  1. Interesting...that actually happened to me today. Took $1.99 off and should have taken $2.50 off. The cashier is actually the one who caught it. She (nor her manager) could seem to override the coupon price, so they ended up price adjusting one of my items. In reading the link you provide, I wonder if its a coincidence that that Target was only taking $1.99 off in both situations?

  2. Sarah, that does seem a little too fishy...I mean, the exact same amount as was mentioned in the article. This is disappointing.

  3. I love it that Target said to just go back with your receipt if you didn't get the full amount. Since you'd no longer have the coupon, how will you prove it? I hope that Target instructs their stores to not give customers a hard time!

  4. I did a blog about Targets new system in July. Take a look http://sharercoupons.blogspot.com/2010/07/target-new-system.html

  5. I think that every one should print the artical linked along with the coupon policy so if they do end up with a not so nice cashier/manager they can show this too. The "manager" (his name tag said trainer) did give it to me but told me it was a "one time thing" Had I had this artical I could have said "no its not".

  6. Coleen, I know...your receipt will show a coupon amt. was deducted but how can you prove the MQ was worth more than what they credited you at the time?! It's a stupid answer, for sure.

Sharercoupons....ITA. Print this out along with their policy & then fight the good fight! :)

  7. I had trouble a few weeks ago. I was using the Mead 5 star coupon $1/2, but the coupon was only taking $.50 off. Luckily I caught it (I had seen it mentioned on another blog about not ringing up right). The cashier was great and price adjusted it.

  8. See, this is terrible! If it's an honest mistake, they will find a solution quickly. I guess we will just have to wait & see.
