I did it again; I meant to post this earlier but forgot about it. Sorry!
So here's the deal: You know that in my house we eat almost exclusively organic products. And almost everyone knows organic typically costs more. So my ears perked up when my friend, Sue told me she made organic yogurt in her crock pot. Yes, in her crock pot!
She stated it was super easy, tasted awesome, & was affordable. The recipe & info is found on an awesome blog, Crockpot365. In fact, someone left a comment on the blog that compared the price of the homemade organic yogurt & Yobaby organic yogurt (& yay for us Puget Sound readers, she based her price off stores in Seattle!) & the results are eye opening. Yobaby was 27 cents per ounce & the homemade organic yogurt was 2 cents per ounce. Holy cow! Talk about stretching your dollar!
I will admit that I haven't tried this yet, but I am definitely going to do so soon.

I've started using this recipe about a month ago to make my own yogurt. I do drain mine through a cheese clothe after its done sitting in the crock pot tho.
ReplyDeleteAllison, do you use whole milk?
ReplyDeleteYes I do. I've used %2 before and it worked ok, just not as well as whole milk.
ReplyDeleteGood to know. I figured it would be more creamy that way. Thanks for the info!
